I started smoking cigarettes in 2002. I quit in 2013 during my pregnancy, but definitely snuck a drag or two during it even. Picked it right back up after birth.

Switched to vaping in 2021. The vape.. hurts my throat in ways American Spirits never did. My husband and I both vape, and we've been talking about quitting for near 6 months.

I got so mad at always having the vape in my hand one day a few months ago I was pissed enough to try, but only survived 2 days trying cold turkey.

Last night I woke in the middle of the night, basically choking. I had to get up, get some water, then milk, then a cough drop to get my throat to chill out. I haven't touched my vape since.

Fist this this morning, I went and got 2mg lozenges, and a pack of American spirits.. ugh. I smoked one on the road, ditched the whole pack ($15 bro why am I so dumb).

Im home with the first lozenge in my mouth dissolving right now.

I choke, really easy this last year or two. My throat hurts from the vape, and im going to die if I dont quit, like now.

Im done. All the times I've tried, I've never made it past day four. Day four I cave.

Not this time. Heres to hour one. Godspeed

I will probably make a full post of my history dealing with quitting smoking in the future. For now I will line out a new method since the last attempt failed.

My last attempt involved around the so called "ride the wave" as when the craving happens I will try to calm my mind and go into a meditation state, this however has been proven to be ineffective when the craving becomes so overwhelming.

This time, I decide to fight proactively, with this new technique "talk back", when the craving happens I will ask myself "Why do you want to smoke, my Brain?". Knowledge is weapon, I have so many answers to combat any nonsense my brain will come up with, at least this is the theory.

I will keep this updated, see you soon.

I'm hopeful this time, with no fear, no anxiety, to reclaim who I originally am.

One of the subreddits that massively helped me quit my smoking habit of 7 years was r/quittingsmoking.

It provided a very good support group where we were able to keep each other motivated.

Believe that people here on lemmy can make use of this community to support each other and try to get out of smoking.

Cheers!
