Rule 3 - Keep post and comments relevant

Posts must be related to Plex and Plex-related products, apps. etc. Try to keep comments relevant to the parent comment and to the post.

Rule 4 - Keep discussions of "media aqcuistion" limited to means and methods only.

Posts/comments discussing specific acts of piracy ("How do I find X show?" or "Where can I download Y film?")will be removed. For further clarification see this post

Since this post was made last week, we've gotten a lot of feedback regarding the new policy, and it's understandable that many of you are unhappy with the restriction. It makes it difficult to discuss how to effectively set up a full Plex server stack which includes a VPN and torrent solution which feed into Sonarr / Radarr / etc. So, after some discussion and thought, we've decided to loosen the rule a litte bit in order to better facilitate such discussions.

Moving forward, discussions regarding how to acquire media will be permitted. Users here who need help setting up and troubleshooting the means and methods of acquiring media - such as installing VPN and torrent client docker containers - may come here for help and users here may feel free to answer openly. Soon, we may feature guides in the sidebar to help facilitate these processes, as the goal here is to help Plex users set up and operate Plex Media Servers.

The line where it becomes unacceptable is where discussion veer into the acquisition of any specific media. Posts or comments asking how to find/acquire specific shows / films / albums and on are not permitted. As stated previously, there are other communities for that. Frankly, they’re better resources for that kind of help anyway.

We hope these loosened restrictions make it easier for users here to have open discussions and make it more clear that we're trying to focus on the purpose of helping Plex users set up, troubleshoot, and maintain their servers.

Rule 4 in the sidebar has been updated to reflect this shift in policy.

We welcome feedback and discussion in the comments below!

Cheers!

on my Android phone, it's automatically set so that skipping forward is 30 seconds, and skipping backwards is 10. because reasons, it would be great if I could skip forward by 20-second intervals. is that something I can edit?

the only way I can find is to change subtitle size and color is to go back to the Plex settings, which stops the video from playing. Google Pixel 7, Android 15, Windows media server

first a quick question, if I switch over to jellyfin, is the same thing going to happen in four or five years? I'll be all settled into a nice ecosystem and then they'll just shit all over my face and I'll have to start over?

how did they manage to break it so thoroughly so quickly? the Plex server is less than 100 feet from my bedroom, but ever since the update, the lag and buffering has been so bad (even when I turn it down to 240p, when I used to be able to watch it original quality) and they've broken the download for later feature so that I have to manually go get the files I want off my server and on to my phone for that evening, and then watch them on my phone using VLC.

they claim they made these changes based on user requests. oh yeah? prove it. I want to see exactly how many people asked you to make it so you can't download an entire show at once. I want to see exactly how many people ask you to move the subtitle settings to a completely different menu from the subtitle toggle. I want to see how many people told you they wanted to learn a whole new layout for no apparent reason without the ability to change it back.

and I don't know what you did on the back end, but I don't think anybody asked you to make it buffer 10 times more than it used to. I don't think anybody asked you to make it so that it's harder to add things to playlists. I just flat out don't believe you that anybody asked you for this stuff. you can prove me wrong pretty easily, just show us the data

because I'm 100% certain you made these changes for somebody other than your users and I want to know who and why. the fact that I can no longer share my library with my mother is pretty telling as to who you're trying to please. let them know that the only reason I learned how to torrent in the first place was because something was inaccessible to me; do they really want me out here teaching retirees how to torrent their favorite shows? because if they can't share my library, they're going to have to build their own.

I'm working on integrating authentik into my homelab stack to enable SSO and improve my invite processes.

Is there a webhook based on someone accepting an invite? This would allow me to instantly connect their plex account to their account in authentik, which means I can offer them the ability to use plex to sign into my site and access all the services that I grant them access to. Otherwise I would have to poll my list of users every x minutes to sync users to authentik.

Shamelessly stolen from another forum site:

Just found out Plex has updated its Privacy Policy page and added a new page to opt-out trackings.

https://www.plex.tv/about/privacy-legal/

https://www.plex.tv/vendors-us/

Up until now all your playback data may be involuntarily sent to ad agencies and companies such as Amazon to silently influence and target your buyings. Now we can opt out everything and keep your watch habit private and treat your plex server like never existed.

EDIT: now you can also easily access privacy settings and delete all already uploaded watch history, and stop syncing watch states, rating etc. Remember to set all to private if privacy is important to you.

https://prnt.sc/hj6ZNNh31nl3 https://prnt.sc/0DGbRGLI97_G https://prnt.sc/er3dYwJnut9j

EDIT2: also double confirm "Send playback data to Plex" is unchecked.

like if I download a video on my phone, can I somehow upload that to my Plex server? or do I have to do it the regular way?

See title. Trailers for my local content all play fine. If I want to play a trailer to see if interested in stuff on plex's own streaming service, I get that error.

The movie itself will play fine. The trailers will not.

My Plex server bypasses my pihole.

This is US. Comcast business class line with static IPs.

Happens on all of my clients. Phone. Shield. Onn Android TV.

I have a Plex pass.

WTF?

I'm curious if any of you have ever used Audials. It has some interesting functionality including Audials Vision which has a video AI upscaler. I wonder if this would be effective at upscaling lower resolution videos like DVD quality 480p videos or 720p videos.

I run plex from Docker on a local linux server. I have sonarr configured but its not configured perfectly so it's downloading but not importing right now. Thats a separate issue I need to figure out.

For now, I have a large library that I would like to organize and rename. It all works, its in plex and shows up and such, but it's not consistent. I have some files that have spaces in them and others with dots (preferred). I have season folders like 01 and 1, etc.

I could set up a local share and connect filebot to that I imagine, but am hoping there's maybe a more modern solution that also doesn't require a desktop app.

I know that if I go to my own library on desktop, I can download actual files and move them around and do whatever I want with them, I thought maybe that was why I couldn't find the download to watch later option, so I went to a shared library, and the option isn't there either. you can see where the option exists on mobile

Aww

Happy Thanksgiving! As much grief as plex has given me in the last few months, this was still sweet to see.

I've had trouble streaming Plex in the bedroom, 4K content only. Lot's of buffering/stutters.

I still haven't got around to networking the bedroom to Ethernet, just WiFi.

Out of curiosity I opened VLC on the bedroom Nvidia Shield, and there's an option to access devices on the local network, including my NAS. Opened the file directly and it only buffered once, slowed for about a minute (the audio sounded like my cat playing with my turntable lol) but then it caught up in 30 sec or so and streamed flawlessly after.

Not sure why it worked better, but figured I'd post here as a hack for others in similar situations.

Now that tidal integration is dead, a good option I've used before is livexone (formerly slacker). While i loved having everything in one place, I prefer not having to buy/rip or download the huge catalogs available elsewhere. And now that music seems to be going away in plex clients in the roadmap as well, i decided to find another solution sooner.

The ui isnt the best, but is far from the worst. How I use it:

  • star an artist to add them to your list of artists
  • then immediately also add that artist to each custom station you want them to be a part of
  • while playing your custom stations, use the dot menu to fine tune how much outside of the station can be pulled in. This, imo, is live's killer feature. Similar music is based on the whole list of artists in the station, not just a single artist.
  • grow your artists and playlists by browsing related.

In addition to this, livex also has genres, curated lists, new music lists, and podcasts.

It also has apps that do not suck on android auto and android tv.

I'm already not missing plexamp + tidal, so I wanted to share.

edit - turns out rebooting it five times is what works.

when I'm using any of my Plex players, it acts like my server is turned off. when I go into settings, it says that my server is unavailable with a secure connection. I've tried restarting everything, rebooting everything, I can't watch my server.

The error is saying there’s not enough memory. But not enough memory where? Anyone else running into this? Any suggestions for resolution?

I'm an unemployed software developer with some time to make things I've wanted to exist.

I just released a web app that lets you log in with your Plex account which imports the movies available in your library, create a voting session, and invite friends to vote on movies. When a movie gets votes from all your friends in the session, it is declared the winner and the session creator will get a link to open the movie in Plex.

I was tired of endlessly scrolling through my movie library whenever it was time to pick a movie. I think this will help.

Here are some screenshots

Dashboard

Voting Session

Check it out if you like the idea. You can reply here or DM if you run into any issues or have any ideas.

Some of my ideas for the next features to add:

  • Filter by watched/unwatched
  • Select genres for the voting session
  • Make popcorn

This royally sucks for me. I like having my own local library integrated with Tidal.

Hi All,

About a year ago I transferred all my files to a new drive. I used filzezilla which did mostly ok-ish, but I didn't notice that some of the video files were corrupted. Random files will have a green tinge to them (like someone put a green filter over the lens).

It seems random, although if it's a series it's usually the whole series.

I've been replacing them as they come up, but I was wondering if anyone had any bright ideas to expedite the process.

Thanks for any help!

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/25161862

I have followed the docs and have the recommended folder structures for my Plex and arrs setup.

sonarr has a volume set as /data which gives it access to e.g. /data/usenet/downloads This is working fine with SABnzdb

I am using a seedbox for torrents. Looking at ruTorrent on the seedbox, I can see that the local download folder there is set to: /home/seedit4me/torrents/rtorrent

sonarr is reporting "No files found are eligible for import in:

  • /home/seedit4me/torrents/rtorrent/Completed/tv-sonarr/filename.mkv

I have set a remote path in the download clients page in sonarr as follows:

  • Host - ****.seedit4.me
  • Remote path: /home/seedit4me
  • local path: /data

I have ftp'd the mkv file to actual folder structure:

  • /data/torrents/rtorrent/Completed/tv-sonaar/filename.mkv

The permissions on this file are:

  • -rw-rw-r--

the folder permissions are:

  • drwxrwxr-x 2 myacct myacct 4096 Aug 2 11:41 .
  • drwxrwxr-x 3 myacct myacct

My uid=1000(my acct), same for gid I have set these as the PUID and PGID env variables in sonarr

The log file in sonarr is reporting: |Error|DownloadedEpisodesImportService|Import failed, path does not exist or is not accessible by Sonarr: /home/(removed)/torrents/rtorrent/Completed/tv-sonarr/filename.mkv

Seeing this, i tried mapping /home/(removed)/ to /data/ but that doesn't work either.

Can anyone guide me on what I am doing wrong? I feel like I've checked everything so I can't understand the issue at all.---
