If someone is let's say, close to their mom and she passes away, and that person has no ambition, doesn't want kids and the sole purpose in their life was giving back to their family and keeping that parental contact, how does one continue life if the one thing keeping you going and happy, is now gone and dead?

A lot of conspiracy theories revolve around people who are rich and powerful with little to no accountability. The natural result of being a conspiracy theorist who believes conspiracies like these should be to question the system that creates these rich and powerful people. Yet it seems like most conspiracy theorists are staunchly pro capitalism and generally conservative?

I can’t enjoy sex anymore because of how freezing I get without clothes.

My hands are always like ice and even under my warm blankets at night i’m shivering. I’m so cold all the time it actually hurts.

I’m constantly clinging on to my man when he’s around because he’s like my personal heater. I just can’t deal with being this cold anymore.

I’m a pro athlete and always been very healthy, I’ve only recently become this cold.

I got a new job recently, it doubled my annual income from 30k to 60k. And yet, I can hardly afford anything.

I can afford a town home to rent, but that's it. I don't do much, no drugs, no alcohol, no vacations, no flashy new car, no kids, no significant other. I literally just work, drive around a bit after work, reddit, and sleep.

Yet, my bank account isn't big. I'm not saving massive amounts in my 401k.

I just don't understand it. I have several friends who have bought a house in the last year. I know people who go on vacations to Mexico or the Bahamas every year.

I just don't get it man.

Since the X-surgency, I have begun noticing a huge amount of right wing accounts such as "Clownworld" and "Ian Miles Cheong" fill my feed with their conservative views and it feels annoying. Is this due to algorithmic changes or is Elon actively promoting it on the platform? I don't support right wing views and more of a left wing myself, so my views feel suppressed by the right wing accounts and I never see any followed accounts posts or local news accounts I follow either. Most of the accounts that are promoted are from America which I am not from.

Back to the question, is it just me with the algorithm being weird or is Elon really "right-winging" Twitter?

I lost my mother last month. She lived in Florida but I was out of state. My sister called me and told me she’s ready. I decided to go down to Florida. I left on a Thursday at 5pm. I had to stop at a hotel. Doctor came into her room around 9pm and told my sisters she has a couple hours max to live.

Next morning I’m headed down, I was about 4 hours away. Doctor came in and asked my sisters “who is she waiting for” and my sisters said it was me.

I finally arrived around 2pm. I immediately rubbed her arm and told her it’s okay if she has to go. That I was going to be okay and I will never forget her. I was there maybe 7 minutes; she started to breathe rapidly, then just suddenly stopped and passed.

My question is this: was she aware I was there? Did she have any semblance of consciousness? How did she hold on until I got there? Was she in any pain? Was she scared? I’ve been an engineer for over 20 years and I can’t compute this. I am unable to understand how she waited for me, and it pains me to think for a second she was in pain. Can anyone help me understand this?

I’ve had nightmares about this and would do anything for some level of peace or comfort. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated …

Original Title: With the advent of social media, adulthood feels similar to what high school feels like — the attractive people get the most attention and “likes”? Has adulthood always been like this? Or has it only been this way since social media came around?

Hello I’ll make it short. I’ve always struggled with nail biting. Recently I’ve stopped and now have long nails. I’ve never had either of these things done. I’m wondering if it’s ok for a man to get them? I’m not sure if it’s seen as gay still or not. Also I have social anxiety so I’m not sure if everyone will say things about a guy getting their nails done. Thoughts?

Asking elder millennials or older on this one.

Nowadays anyone not with a group is staring at their phone the whole time - many times me included. Did strangers talk to each other, or just keep to themselves and stare at the wall, or what? I grew up without internet, but smartphones became ubiquitous around my drinking age, so I have no idea what it was like sitting at a bar by yourself before smartphones.

Edit: so it sounds like newspapers and books were traded for smartphones. I cannot imagine brining a book to a bar. I’ve been drinking for over a decade and I’ve never seen someone bring a newspaper to the bar, and I could probably count on one hand the amount of times someone brought a book to a bar.

Hey- I’m new to Reddit, and honestly a little out of touch so I’m new to these things. I understand “karma” is when you get “upvoted” for having what I assume to be a popular opinion or idea.

I also understand that maybe a few thousand “karma” seems pretty good, after all you’ve had a few thousand people agree with you online.

However, I’ve come across people with millions of it, and I’m not sure how? They seem to just have a lot of posts with 100-500 upvotes each. Even if every post they made had 1000 upvotes, they’ve still managed to post 1000 times. Do people often have more than 1000 posts? Is there a reason people would want a lot of it? Whenever I google it, I can’t seem to access any reliable information.

Edit- I took out my exclamation mark. Those feel weird to type.

In my culture dating is a taboo, we skip straight to engagement then marriage.

A good man proposed to me but I highly dislike both his looks and his voice, it repulses me to imagine being intimate with him..

My parents tell me that if I love the person I'll want to be intimate with them even if I dislike how they look (and sound), is that true???

Ever got into a relationship with someone you initially disliked their looks? Please tell me how it went!

I’ve always heard this a lot recently and searched it up myself out of curiosity. It’s true that Gen Z is less computer savy than Millennials. I’m one of the older members of Gen Z (2000) and throughout my livelihood computers played a big part of my life from typing book reports to playing games on Newgrounds. However, stories I’ve heard are shocking. People around my age struggling to grasp with basic things like knowing how to structure an e-mail, struggling with Microsoft word, PowerPoint, Excel, let alone TYPE, and etc…I’m not going to lie on this sub-topic however, I’m terms of coding, yes I have no clue how to do but I wouldn’t consider that a “basic skill” imo (Pls don’t attack me lol). I even heard it’s going to get worse for Gen Alpha because schools are getting rid of computer classes. I’ve tried defending Gen Z on this topic before, now I just feel to ask people who are seeing this problem.

Say somebody you are seeing and about to start a relationship with admitted to cheating on their ex and said how they’ve seen the error in their ways and don’t cheat on significant others anymore. Would you view them differently and not date them or would you take up on their word and hope they keep it? Edit: I reworded my question

I've seen stories on the news of trash people breaking into empty homes and becoming squatters. They move their furniture and basically claim ownership even though the house belongs to someone else and the squatter never asked permission or paid the owner money to move in. The owner can't get them out either because of squatter rights so people can just steal other people's propperty. Why do squatters have rights? Why do they have the right to steal another person's home and live there for free and the cops can't do anything about it. In fact the squatter can press leagal action on the owner if the owner tries to force them out. The owner of the property would have to go to court and pay legal fees to get their house back.

Grabbing a bottle of soap or mouthwash and reading the labels was at least somewhat entertaining back in those days. Nothing else to do while sitting there.

Hopefully theres a chemist or doctor online here as I don't want an answer that isn't credible.

I was told that THCa is the same thing as THC but I'm not sure how this gets you intoxicated and it's legal to sell. I know all about that Delta 8 crap, but this to my knowledge is unadulterated cannabis thats legally being sold online and in stores. If someone could clarify if THCa is intoxicating that would be helpful.

Over the last few months I've noticed a significant uptick in usernames with the same format:

[Adjective/Adverb]-[noun]-[number]

I've casually tried to find a pattern in post types, karma farmed, how old they are, comment content, etc, but without doing some coding and data-gathering I can't see any common patterns.

However, the proliferation of what appears to be auto-generated bot usernames has me wondering, is there an app or something that creates usernames as you sign up with this pattern? Am I crazy?

edit: Apparently that's how reddit suggests new usernames. Guess it's been a while since I've signed up for a new account, thanks everyone!

I took a job a few years back and it was my first office job. We have nice large bathrooms. But there are sometimes a handful of dudes who rip ass while pissing at the urinal. I'm more a discreet farter, so it's never been a need or issue for me. But some of these dudes publicly with no shame let one rip while taking a piss and I question is this is a normal thing or not.

Original Title: If someone tells you that their pronouns are e.g. cloudself, xyr, xir and tells you to refer them by those pronouns, would you do it? And also, is this American/western things (I mean weird pronouns)?

I met someone, A, in a Facebook group that I joined and we chatted on messenger. A identified as non-binary and A told me that A's pronouns are cloud/cloudself. I was a bit surprised. I've never heard that kind of pronouns before.

Hi all. I remember that one of the first kids I met in high school was this friendly and typical attractive girl.

Out of curiosity, I looked her up and I was surprised to find out she has wrinkles over her face. Especially around her eyes and cheeks. It honestly looks like she is in her 30s or older, but she is still in her early 20s.

Is this common? Is my appearance of women incorrect because of all the women I see on social media that are usually wearing makeup and using artificial filters?

I thought various and large wrinkles only happen during early 30s.

I remember as a kid I used to cry whenever I fell from a tree or bike and scraped my knee or did anything alike, but now I never cry when that happens. I've accidentally cut myself twice this month pretty deep and I only get paranoid over an infection, I barely feel the pain. I fell pretty hard a few months ago, scraped my knee hard and no tears, just back at worrying over an infection.

I've seen grown people break a bone and no tears, just frustration and thinking about going to the ER or booking an appointment.

Is it a tolerance against pain that has gotten better with age? Or do we just handle emotions differently?
