I know this is a controversial topic, but I grew up in an extremely religious household where we wouldn’t dare discuss these things. Now as an adult I’m just trying to understand genuinely, and I may not use the right language, so I’m sorry in advance if I offend anyone. I cannot stress enough that my intention is not to attack anyone’s identity, but simply to try to understand this ever-changing society we live in.

With that being said, I know that my comparison sounds offensive, but I just want to explain how I see it so that hopefully someone can correct me and help me understand how this comparison is not the same. The part that I don’t understand is altering one’s body to match the mind. There’s no other mental issue where we do this, such as prescribing plastic surgery for body dysmorphia. So I’m trying to understand why plastic surgery is a treatment option for gender dysmorphia.

On the same topic, I don’t understand gender. Why do people get to choose whatever gender they want to identify as? Wouldn’t it be more healthy to align your mind with your body rather than attempt to align your body with your mind?

Edit — it seems my ignorance lies not only in gender, but also in medicine. I don’t see medical professions often and don’t take any medication. So it seems I just did not understand all that “treatment” is is really just medical professionals best guess at what will treat issues the best with the least amount of harm. Thank you again you all for breaking down my indoctrination!

It's literally IMPOSSIBLE to overstate how prevalent the BBC expectation is. The amount of times you'll to flirt with someone and they start throwing SIZE innuendos at you.

I'm not sure how to handle it. So far I've just gotten discouraged and ended my persuit. At what point in dating someone should I let them know I'm actually below average in length and girth? And how? I know oral and manual sex are things some women enjoy, but it seems like when you're black, you EXPECTED to live up to the BBC standard.

And I don't know, maybe most black men are large, and I'm just an oddity.

So I wanted to try the viral tiktok feta cheese pasta recipe, so i bought feta cheese for the first time ever. Before adding it to the baking dish, i just broke off a chunk and tasted it. THAT.SHIT.TASTED.HORRIBLE. I was literally thinking about my life choices and decided to just follow the recipe. Now it's in the oven (cherry tomatoes and feta and etc) and while the pasta is boiling, I'm writing here wondering am I gonna regret the output dish? I'm already terrified of tasting the finished "viral feta cheese pasta", is it gonna be bad? I'm almost worried. Do people ACTUALLY like this cheese? Or is it just a hyped up cheese?

It's something that was always pointed out to me. I see a therapist every week, have tried things from daily affirmations to meditation to just doing stuff I enjoy. Still, I feel as though my self-esteem is always something I will need to be working on. Even now at 34, I still have days where I feel like dirt.

I'm often told "you can't love anyone until love yourself" and that I need to work on my self-esteem if I want to find a partner. At this point, if that's the case, then I'm probably never going to find that special person for the reasons mentioned above. I sometimes ask myself if my self-esteem is that low, what's the point in trying?

Is it possible to find love and be happy even if my self-esteem needs work?

I read a LinkedIn post made by a coworker recently and was embarrassed for him. He's in sales and the crux of the post was about how he had saved a client lots of money on something, but it contained numerous errors, like using "their" instead of "they're", unnecessary apostrophes, and he even used both the "$" and the word dollars when describing the amount of money his client saved. And I see frequently here on Reddit people forgetting that the "$" symbol goes before the amount and instead they put it after the amount.

My gut reaction when I see a post like this is to think the person is stupid. But this guy is most definitely not stupid, and I know that many others who write poorly also aren't stupid. This guy's good at what he does, his clients love him, and if you judge success by the amount of money a person makes, he's incredibly successful (as in, probably makes more than many doctors). He's also always willing to spend time with new people on his team and teach them his ways (which he doesn't have to do). Dude's a freaking all-around awesome human.

So why do some people write so poorly but do seemingly everything else so well?

I mean, every depiction or debunked photo shows 2 arms, 2 legs, similar proportions, with just a hint of alien. If there are aliens, wouldn't it be more reasonable to assume they are nothing like us at all?

I am getting bit and I have no idea what it could be. The bites look like mosquito bites but range from small to big. They are not bed bug bites because I’ve seen those before. They’re not in clusters and are mainly on my legs. We do have a lot of fruit flies lately, can they possibly be biting me? My sister’s bites got huge and were extremely itchy and painful and developed a hard lump under the skin. Mine don’t itch. Can somebody please help us figure out what this could be?

I hate the church but I miss community.. is there something like church but for people who don't follow a set religion? I tried Unitarian but the closest church to us is a much older generation and the next closest one is over an hour away... I've tried to find pagan groups and meet ups but often there's a fee or my husband or son aren't allowed.. also have tried DND which I love but without a babysitter which we don't have..... it's not really feasible... I miss meeting up with people sharing struggles and potlucks and community but I don't believe in their beliefs, I don't like the hate in the church and so much more... I'm in a small town in the bible belt no chance of moving away.... I just really want community

You read the news about some celebrity selling his or her 15+ bedroom mansion, and I keep thinking: what on earth are you doing in a house that big? Sleep in a different room every day? I mean I get it, they do get some visitors sometimes (not 20-30 I hope regularly), they have domestic help (who probably do not use the bedrooms, or one of the five house cinemas, or one of the ten pools), but when you are home with your wife and two kids in a freaking big house like that - what do you do with all that space?

Am I being small-minded here?

By "pet", I literally mean head scratches, tummy rubs, ear scratches, etc.

Something about it feels so soothing and relaxing, but I'm worried it could appear weird, so I have no idea how I'll tell my (future) partner about it. It seems like something that could be pretty normal but I hardly see anyone talk about it

so am I just letting my anxiety get the best of me or what

Like how we got Hawaii, cuba puerto rico etc… All of those countries like it wasn’t like they really wanted to join us, has there been a circumstance where a country has wanted to?

After hearing his opinion about UFOs/aliens, and his views about gender. I noticed a lot of people don't like him. He is the only modern scientist I see get this much hate. People call him close-minded, arrogant, or a Government.

I just opened a pack of hit dogs and sloshed juice all over my shirt.

Hot dogs aren't brined and besides the fats melting when heated what other liquid is coming off these lil doggies?

Packed in dog juice for freshness? Is this a premium pup vs cheap chihuahua situation? Are they just padding the ounces with a saline solution like chicken?

So I'm 22 and fairly healthy but I've had type 1 diabetes for 21 years. Sometimes I'll need to get to my car pretty quick to grab glucose if my blood sugar drops or if I my blood sugar is high and makes me feel awful I don't like having to walk a half mile from the parking lot to campus. I feel wrong about taking a spot from someone who might need it more but sometimes it would be really useful to me. So it would it be wrong to get one? Thanks for any replies.

I've been reading through Mythos, Heroes, and Troy by Stephen Fry recently and I've been a little confused about the sexuality of Greeks around these times.

Every other male character throughout these myths seems to take one or more young male lover at one point or another. Does this reflect how the people were who wrote these stories? If so, how is it that homosexuality/bisexuality would be so much more prevalent then than it is now? I don't really get how that could happen.

Morephine, codeine, etc. are necessary after major surgery but every day I read about how addicting opiods and other painkillers are and how patients can get hooked after one dose.

In Matthew Perry's book he talks about getting injured on a film set and how quickly he became addicted to painkillers.

How do doctors manage the treatment so a patient doesn't become hooked and wind up in a depilitating sprial of addition?

I don't need any surgery but I fear ever being in that position.

Last time I visited my brother his mother-in-law who lives with him was insisting she remembered something but my brother knew she was wrong. I don't remember what it was, but I knew she was wrong too. However, she refused to accept she was wrong and got belligerent about it.

My brother said, "Draw a clock!" and left the room. This made his mother-in-law furious for some reason. I forgot to ask at the time, but does anyone know why saying 'Draw a clock' would upset a senior citizen?

F19 here. I’m in college and some of my male classmates, age 18-22, already have thinning hair. I’m genuinely curious as to why. It’s a touchy subject though, so I’ve never heard the answer.
