I recently moved to a college in the very Deep South where the college has over 95 percent sports students. Recently I haven’t been able to make many (or any) friends because of this, since many people seem to think I’m weird or defective for not liking sports. Usually I’m just ignored but the worst case is bullying by the students and being singled out by some of the locals. Am I weird for not liking sports? I have nothing against people that like, it’s just not something I enjoy, but for some reason people seem offended by that here. Is there any reason for this? Have I said something wrong to the locals? Is not liking sports abnormal?

I don’t know too much about it. But my neighbor wants me to sign a petition to make sure section 8 doesn’t enter our neighborhood? Or something.

I asked him about it, and he said some homeowners in our neighborhood are renting their property and moving elsewhere. And how it’s going to eventually bring section 8 into our neighborhood.

I guess I don’t get it. How exactly would that affect our neighborhood? I don’t think I really understand what section 8 is. I thought I knew. But I guess I don’t.

And then he went on about how will bring black people in.

And I called him racist and he got mad at me and said I was getting defensive. And that he wasn’t being racist.

I might not know much about section 8 but if you have to say “it will bring black people in” in anger, then ya, you’re racist.

How was I defensive? I wasn’t annoyed before but I now I’m getting there.

I’m low-key in a bad mood. Sigh.

The crazy thing is, he had to borrow money from his older brother to make ends meet recently after being laid off. And he’s acting like people on welfare are wrong for doing essentially the same thing.

Not just adult animation but cartoons like courage the cowardly dog. Not that I really care enough to change my habits but I just like to know outside looking in.

So… I recently got hired and I’m heading in for my first day of work tomorrow. I’ll be in a hotel kitchen. First job ever.

I already know when I start and what to wear and a good outline of what I’ll be doing but… how do I start…? Like do I just walk straight into the kitchen, introduce myself and hope whoever’s there is prepared to deal with that? Do I find the manager first? If I bring a jacket or bag or something where do I put that??

I saw a post where a man left his wife to have kids. They were an older couple (50’s I believe) so kids for her were no longer an option.

Some people act like not having kids is a flex, but I wonder if their attitude will change once they get older just like this guy.

I have mixed feelings about my appearance. On one hand, a lot of days I'll look in the mirror and feel like I look good. I'm not anywhere near perfect or handsome, but I kind of like the way my eyes sparkle sometimes. On the other hand, I know I'm objectively not good looking, since I've never got attention from girls, at least in a romantic way. There's some innate desire in me to be physically attractive to girls, and since I am not and will never be that, it makes me perpetually sad.

I probably come off as pathetic. I'm not just somebody who likes to whine. I've been working out almost every day for the past few months and I've been practicing my speech and behaviors since I'm a little awkward and have a lisp. I'm a driven person and I'm ready to put the work in to make myself better.

My question is though, how do I stop caring what other people think about me? Since I don't have great genetics, I know I'm always not going to be perceived as cool or attractive, and thus I'll always be a little sad about that. I want to be happy with the way I am and improve for myself.

Working more than one job always used to be something people would say as a hardship, for example if they came from a humble upbringing like, “my mom had to work two jobs to put food on the table for us.” I don’t get why we’re trying to make side-hustles cool and wondering if I’m crazy for not wanting to have a side-hustle myself.

Hear me out now. I frequently make 1-pan meals, meaning everything gets cooked in one pan, minimizing dishes. I usually use one cutting board too. My protein of choice is usually chicken. I cut everything on the one cutting board, chicken, potatoes, veggies, etc, whatever. Of course I wash it after I'm completely done cooking but I don't wash it in between chopping different foods. My rationalization is that it's all getting thrown into one pan and getting cooked. So why bother washing it? Is what I'm doing bad or unsafe?

I remember when I was a kid (15-20 years ago,) while most people thought WWE/AEW, etc. were fake, the companies and stars weren't as open with it as they are now.

When did they first openly start talking about it?

I’m talking fasting for a diet, fasting for religious reasons, having an eating disorder, just forgetting to eat all day long, not taking a lunch during an 8 hour work day etc.

idk if there’s something wrong with me but if I go like 3 hours without having at least a snack I literally feel like i’m gonna die. I get SO nauseous and dizzy and sometimes get a pounding headache if it’s bad enough

I recently ended a 2 year relationship with a girl i was not happy with, and when I tell people about it, they all say “why? She was so pretty” like okay? What good does her prettiness do if I am not happy being with that person?

There is a percentage of the United States population that is anti-abortion, but at the same time are in favor of reducing child welfare, such as WIC as well as child care credits for daycare. The same people are often against gay people, adopting, and even single people adopting. So my serious question and not trying to stir up shit, is what do those people think will happen, or should happen, or could happen to those babies that are not aborted? I’m genuinely trying to understand other people’s point of you, so please don’t feel this thread with vitriolic hate speech.

Cancel culture keeps switching sides, it seems.. Like in history, conservatives are doing the canceling, and now, it's progressives. Think it'll ever just be old news?

is there ever a world where cancel culture is a thing of the past and only the past ?

She doesn't eat other veg, despite being a vegetarian so no meat. Doesn't do pasta. Doesn't like bread. Basically just eats formas of french fries and cheese, but I think other potato forms are involved. I think she'll eat some candy too, and maybe certain snack chips and crackers. But it's really cheese and potato I want to make that clear.

How is this woman ok? From talking to my wife it sounds like she has been this way for years. Since childhood/teenage years at some point.

How can she handle such little food and nutrient variety does she not need the other vitamins?! She's like had a kid and become a psychologist in that time too how can you do that fueled only by cheesy potato??

Title straight to the point, I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed but have to figure out what to do after high school (senior year now), I don’t mind not being rich but I want to have money to help my mom so she doesn’t have to work so much

I may sound ignorant living in my bubble, but I’m wondering how people get by on a day to day basis without the ability to read considering how much our society relies on the assumption of literacy. Signs on the highway, text on packaging at the grocery store, communication (texts, emails), text on the electric bill, etc.

This is something I've always wanted. I would just love it if I could go to a drive thru and get any myriad of pasta dishes. Buttered noodles, spaghetti, chicken Alfredo, prima vera, linguine and clams, etc.

The closest thing I've seen is Dominos with their baked pastas.

I used to work in restaurants and I guess I see the challenge of always having fresh noodles. Though, once they're cooked, you could throw them in cold water and for service quickly blanch them in hot just to heat them up. I wonder if there would be issues there.

Sauces would be easy to have in standby. Make the sauce and hot hold it. I wonder how long some sauces could last like that.

I know there's some places where I live that try this, like Noodles and Company, I just don't want to go inside. I'm lazy, what can I say?

I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about this. Cheers!

I'm a high school student, just a freshman, and sometimes I feel that if I go to sleep early then I'll just be like "Well, this day just felt like school, barely any time at home." Sometimes I just stay up so I actually feel more at home and not always have that feeling of just school, school, school. Does anyone else feel this way, maybe with work as well?

Edit: I know people don't like it when others edit their message saying "thank you" or anything, but DANG did I not expect this post to be the highest post in the sub after I, ironically, came home from school. Thank you all!

It is interesting to see a lot more people than I thought stay up for free time as well. I can't imagine going to school or going to work, then going to sleep only a couple or few hours later, only to do the same thing again the next day.

My biggest problem in life is managing to screw up simple tasks in ways that nobody could have warned me about, because it didn't cross anyone else's mind that I would find some way of screwing up that was previously unknown to science. And then I can't even explain the nature of the problem to anyone to ask what went wrong, because as far as I was aware I was doing everything right, and then it just goes tits-up. Today I managed to burn an oven mitt on a pot handle that could not have - in any fathomable way - been hot.

My therapist suggested finding a hobby that's low-stakes and simple enough that one cannot possibly mess up doing it, something that can't be done wrong. I am yet to find one. I can't get myself interested in reading books anymore, and watching movies or TV doesn't count as a hobby, since staring at a screen is not an activity. What are some hobbies that you can do with your hands, that cannot possibly be done wrong, in any fathomable way?

So I 23M, was dating 28F for a few months. We broke up because she has some personal things to work out but we are still seeing each other regularly as we both want to pursue a relationship in the future. Last night I stayed at her house and saw she had been snapping some guy, and curiosity killed the cat. I opened the chat and no texts were saved in it just like 6 bikini pictures she had sent him. I asked her about the guy vaguely didn’t say I looked. She said it’s someone she isn’t interested in that messages her every once in a while but she has zero interest in it, and only responds to like 1 out of 15 messages(but they are best friends on snap). How would this make you feel, or what do you think about it?

I’ve known a few people that have done this. They can now get a family member to open up a credit card and they pay them, work off the books, and rent from people that don’t require credit checks, did they just make $100,000 for free essentially?
