If it's true that a ton of women would buy clothes with pockets, it seems obvious that a company should simply make women's clothing with pockets. I've heard the conspiracy theory that its to get women to buy purses, but clearly that wouldn't stop an entrepreneurial person from simply making a brand new company that only makes clothes with pockets for women. The purse conspiracy doesn't apply if the company doesn't make purses.

I'm also hoping someone will get my pun in the title of this post.

In both videos and online, I've seen a lot of Japanese and other Asian countries get asked about Westerns "appropriating" their culture by wearing kimono, getting Japanese tattoos (tattoos in Japanese, Japanese-style art, and Irezumi), and Japanese people basically have no concept of what "cultural appropriation" even is. They're not offended/they don't find it offensive. Certain things may be embarrassing (getting art or characters you don't know the meaning behind) but they're not upset.

And often times in the comments, people say the idea of appropriation is simply an Western thing, if not outright just American.

Is it something other countries worry about/get offended by? Or do they not care?

(I'm not talking about blatant racism or things of that nature, like wearing a Native American headdress as a costume, black face/eye slanting.)

I'm a millennial in my 30s..kids have been calling me boomer. Not taking any controversial stance on anything, just going to work, coming home and spending time with my family, but the kids in the community call me a boomer. I don't really care, but I thought it was referring to the baby boomer generation, not just a person older than them.

I was listening to a podcast, they were discussing how they find it weird Americans don't put butter on their sandwiches.

Is that true? Isn't your sandwich so dry?

People have been firing guns from horses for a long time, almost as long as guns have existed, but how do the horses not freak out? Do they get exposure therapy? Or are they naturally calm around guns?

My girlfriend got her hair done at a salon. I was gonna ask how it went but she’s not cutting her hair she’s just getting it dyed. Do i say “how was your hairdressing?”, my last two brain cells blacked out when i tried to pose that question

I met this girl in my class and I think she's really cute and she asked if I liked Indian food. I impulsively lied and said yes even though I really don't like it that much (but then again I haven't actually ate a whole Indian dish by myself. I probably last tried Indian food 10 years ago) Although I do like the trader Joe chicken curry. I think that tastes good.

She wants to get Indian food sometime and I was wondering if I get "chicken curry" would that be enough for me to like it and eat it? I know I shouldn't have lied in the first place but I didn't want to pass up an opportunity to hang out with her you know?

I am 29, and I just shaved my beard off after 9 years of having it. I did it suddenly, and I look so different; I am afraid my fiancée isn't going to like it. I look like a babyface and feel so different now. I look and feel so different. Is this normal for a man shaving their beard after years of growing one? I feel like I lost a part of myself after looking in the mirror.

I saw a tweet today that was like "why do babies cry when they're tired instead of just going to sleep no one's stopping you bro" and it made me genuinely curious. I don't have a baby so I have no idea. Do they just not know they're sleepy until they reach the point of just passing out from sleepiness? Or what

Edit: ok I guess that makes sense, babies are so confusing to me! Thanks everyone ☺️

Honestly, as a 25M is just embarrassing. I just had surgery this morning and can't really move my body. Can't even bend over to wash my feet but its just so embarrassing to be an adult and need help from my parents like this.

I was at a McDonald’s late last night in a semi-dodgy part of town. Two young ruffians paid for and received their food and then each leant over the counter and stuffed about 50-100 straws into their bags. As there were leaving the security guy chased them and they ended up tussling in the street …over straws?

Straws are very cheap so I’m boggled as to why anyone would bother stealing them. Any pointers?

For context my social worker put me in an apartment that’s a dump -the place that I’m living is in a program for people with disabilities, and I have my own unit like a regular tenant I don’t know how to explain it -there are pest problems like cockroaches -the staffs at the program are disrespectful, coming in to my unit without permission It makes me feel unsafe

I’m planning on moving out, disability or not. nobody should live like this it’s disgusting and horrible

I do pay for my own here. Right now I’m on the wait list for housing regular housing with subsidy not necessarily people with disabilities

I can be surfing just my feed using the back arrow…and it stops responding. I can reactivate it by clicking on a random profile then going back.

This is the only app this happens in. iPhone 11, all updates done.

Anybody else?

So from what I’ve heard of Chinese, the written language is made up of characters that represent words, and there isn’t an alphabet where all these characters come from. There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of these words.

My contacts on my phone are in alphabetical order. The English dictionary is in alphabetical order. With no alphabet how do they look up words and names easily??

It’s not like radical terrorist organizations completely went away after 9/11. In fact, they’re probably stronger than ever today as they’ve completely taken over the entire country of Afghanistan and large portions of Iraq and Syria. Not to mention the large anti-US sentiment in Iran due to decades of CIA back coups and sanctions. And Hamas in Palestine is not particularly fond of the US’ unwavering support of Israel.

I understand that an attack on modern day America that is the scale of 9/11 would be virtually impossible. However, many countries don’t have anywhere near the airport security or intelligence agency capabilities that the US does.

The reasons behind the 9/11 attacks also haven’t ceased. In fact, the West has meddled more in the Middle East and Africa more than they ever have in history over the past 22 years. That was the primary reason behind 9/11.

Also, you would think that terrorist organizations would feel even more emboldened after seeing the failure of the US in Afghanistan and Iraq so an invasion wouldn’t deter them from doing a massive attack.

So, what do you think has deterred anyone from doing something on the scale of 9/11 again?

Edit: Thank you all for the insightful feedback thus far. I’m trying my best to respond to as many as I can but I’m at work so it’s a bit difficult. I do want to clarify that I’m fully aware that there have been hundreds of terror attacks worldwide since 9/11. My question is more concerning as to why nobody has attempted an attack that could cause such earth shattering devastation and destruction like 9/11 that causes the entire world to react. They wouldn’t necessarily have to use the same tactics with planes.

This is kind of an odd, or even stupid question but I’ve noticed that I really struggle to spell words that I’ve never had problems with before(like when I was in high school) because I’ve become so reliant on autocorrect. I’m considering just turning autocorrect off on my phone completely and see how it goes lol.

I hear a lot about the reasons why remote work is ending, sunk cost with corporate leases, middle management needing to flex, that productivity has dropped etc.

Can someone actually provide me a clear and concise reason backed by studies / surveys or some form of evidence on why return to office is prevailing over work from home.

I was on my morning walk with my GF and there was a guy standing next to his car.

As we were walking by on the side walk, I glanced at him and he looked at me and said “what the fuck are you looking at?”

I just ignored him and kept walking but now I feel really embarrassed in front of my GF and I guess my ego took a hit.

I don’t consider myself a wuss but the reason I didn’t answer back was because I was afraid he could’ve been mentally deranged and killed me (with a gun he might have had).

Should I have stood my ground and answered back?

Was I being a wuss?

Title pretty much says it all. I find myself to be less and less pleased with the overall appearance of the person staring back at me in the mirror. A few more wrinkles, a few more grey hairs, and in particular for me, bags under the eyes. At 32 I looked great, and in just a few short years I feel like I've aged 10.

A lot of men don't seem to be bothered by it. We all get older, some of us start to look worse unless you're Brad Pitt/Paul Rudd and already had a pretty high starting point and struck some sort of Satanic pact to retain your youth for longer. Honestly, I wish it didn't bother me as much as it does. I know I'm past my peak and need to accept that it's a natural process, but god damn some days it's not easy to do. All the confidence I had in my late 20s/early 30s is pretty much gone at this point. I do still have my hair, at least for now, so there's that.

My Girl has told me since we've started dating she's "allergic" to weed. The smell gives her headaches and shit. I always tell her that's crazy and kinda laugh it off, but I'll still walk off to smoke so she doesn't have to smell it. This is what she texted me.

"Had a headache for 2 days and no wonder found a blunt out on my side table 👿😡.Keep it off my side table got my head and whole face hurting from it being right under my nose my table is also were Kellys stuff goes so no go zone." Ok it was probably a roach so I get it if you can still smell it and im not sure how it didn't end up on my side of the bed, but you think that's the reason you've had a headache for two days and not tell me anything?

What y'all think?

EDIT: I appreciate the info. I want to understand it, but she can't explain it. I've never met someone allergic to such a thing, only people that get paranoid or "don't feel right." She accepts my use for my reasons, even willing to get things for me. I wanted to hear from you folks what you may know so I can take the proper steps to do what I do and not affect her.
