Everyone knows one of the best things NJ has to offer is homemade bagels. I was curious what everyone's best bagel spot is. A few years ago, I saw this asked on the other site, and I saw some great suggestions.

I bring it up because today I actually got to try the one that was mentioned the most, and im happy to say it did not disappoint. The name is Bagel Train, and technically, it's in NY but only about 30 seconds over the border. This one may have taken 1st place for me. Before this, my favorite was Hot Bagels in Fairlawn. Has anyone else got some suggestions for the best of the best?

If you’re on the US East Coast, you should head on over to Wall, NJ and check out the Vintage Computer Festival East. After all, [Brian Kernighan] is going to be there. Yes, that [Brian Kernighan].

Events are actually well underway, and you’ve already missed the first few TRS-80 Color Computer programming workshops, but rest assured that they’re going on all weekend. If you’re from the other side of the retrocomputing fence, namely the C64 side, you’ve also got a lot to look forward to, because the theme this year is “The Sounds of Retro” which means that your favorite chiptune chips will be getting a workout.

[Tom Nardi] went to VCF East last year, so if you’re on the fence, just have a look at his writeup and you’ll probably hop in your car, or like us, wish you could. If when you do end up going, let us know how it was in the comments!

I guess there's still some good stuff on Reddit every now and then.

#CanCheck

I admit to buying this one just because of its label. However, it was actually pretty tasty. I was happily surprised that a "triple" #IPA didn't turn out to be nasty. It went well with our chili.

Carroccia, the prosecutor, argued for Pimentel to be detained, noting that she may not be safe on the outside.

“Law enforcement has received information from a confidential informant that an individual out of state was contacted to come down and take care of any and all individuals who are involved in connection with this homicide,” the prosecutor said.

Part of me thinks the prosecutor is BSing, but it's a disturbing detail if true.

Updating to add that I just realized that Bridgeton, the town where Detective Sgt. Monica Mosley lived and was murdered, was also where little Dulce Alavez was abducted in 2019. I can't say that there's a connection, but I have to ask: what going on in Brigdeton, NJ?

I want to believe, …

… but I haven't seen any convincing footage yet depicting car-sized drones hovering over locations in New Jersey. Please reply with links to convincing videos. I'm starting to think that it might just be mass hysteria at this point. #NewJersey #drones

Stay vigilant, New Jersey!

I had to stamp out some smouldering leaves I found on the sidewalk this afternoon. I hope it was just from a car and not some nincompoop tossing a cigarette butt.

We've got the following:

  • Socialism and Liberation
  • Vote Better
  • C4C 2024
  • Socialist Equality
  • All of Us!
  • Socialist Workers Party

I only remember Socialism and Liberation (PSL, right?) being on the ballot last time. Are the others I listed any more or less serious? The Socialist Workers Party rings a bell, but that's only because I vaguely recall them being mentioned when I looked up Trotskyism one time. No one seems to have anything nice to say about Trotskyists and I'm honestly not sure what the deal is there.

I'm just trying to figure this out because I like filling in bubbles and I might as well do it in the service of the socialist project.

Apologies for the AMP link. I can't figure out a convenient way to get a native link that includes the full article.

NY Gov Hochul delays controversial NYC congestion pricing plan ‘indefinitely’.
https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/05/business/ny-gov-hochul-delays-indefinitely-controversial-nyc-congestion-pricing-plan/index.html

I'm sure lots of revenue will be missed now that NYC congestion tolling has been killed, but was it earmarked for specific mass transit projects or was it just going to be used to hire more cops and whatnot?
