I was casually watching this guy today and to my surprise he blurts this piece of gem out. Tf is this guy on about? When was there a Linux build of Rainbow Six Siege? When did Ubisoft bin it stating that people were cheating? WHAT??? This is how Linux == Cheaters stereotype propagate

I just got the new Plasma update on Arch with CachyOS repos and I'm astounded by how HDR handling was improved. Previously it looked horrendous. Everything was dim and washed out on my Samsung monitor and it only looked somewhat good in HDR-capable games (with some adjustments).

Now, with expanded calibration, it's actually usable on a daily basis, no need to toggle it on and off. I can actually see everything well during the day in a sunlit room. It's bright, vivid and no longer dim. Even dynamic HDR set in the monitor's OSD settings looks better than ever!

KDE just hit a huge milestone and might've also surpassed Windows in that field. My friend told me that HDR in Windows on both his TV and monitor still looks bad and he keeps it off. Did you notice any HDR improvement on your setups after updating?

I’ve been gaming on Linux for just under a year now, and with my RTX 3080 Ti, the performance difference between Proton and native Windows was usually minimal... maybe around 10% in demanding titles like Cyberpunk. In some cases Linux even had smoother frame pacing.

However, after upgrading to the RTX 5080 yesterday, I’ve noticed a much bigger performance delta. In several games, I’m seeing a 30–40% higher FPS on Windows compared to Linux (both on the latest NVIDIA drivers, identical hardware because I'm dual booting).

I’ve already tried:

  • Reinstalling the NVIDIA drivers
  • Rebuilding kernel modules via DKMS
  • Clearing shader pre-caches

On Linux, GPU utilization hovers around 80–90% and power draw tops out around 300W. On Windows, utilization hits a consistent 99% and power draw can reach 360W+ in the same scenes (e.g., in Cyberpunk maxed-out).

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with the 50-series cards on Linux? Curious if it’s just early driver maturity for the 50-series on Linux or something else causing this.

Xbox has announced that its next-gen console will no longer be locked to a single storefront. Combined with the release of the new ROG Ally X — with a more lightweight Windows interface, native games, Game Pass, and Steam integration — this could actually benefit Valve, as more people might end up using the Steam store.

But could this also pose a long-term threat to SteamOS, Proton, and Linux gaming overall?

Ubisoft said last year that they want to bring Siege to more platforms, and since then zero platforms have been added. However now with the release of Siege X and a few big developments I think this a good time to bring this topic back.

Just 8 upvotes as of writing this would help keep my post up. Thanks :)
