Impulse spending adds up fast. If you see something online take a screenshot and put it in a do I Really need this? folder. Wait 48 hours if you still want it then go for it. You will be amazed how often you just forget about it.

I just heard Roxanne by the Police in a restaurant, a song about a man in love with a prostitute, and recalled my then 10 year old daughter performing to it as part of her synchronized swimming performance. Not the only questionable song that those coaches chose for the team. Political campaigns also seem to ignore this advice on a regular basis as long as the music is an upbeat crowd pleaser.

I live in a studio apartment and there’s limited space. So I have a pile of clothes that go from my chair to the foot of my bed. You know the clothes I’m talking about. The clothes that doesn’t need to be washed but too dirty to put back into drawers. Clothes like jeans, shorts, or jackets tend to be in this pile

Any products or methods of making the storage of this problem more elegant?

When someone is explaining something to you that your already aware of, don’t respond with “I know”. The best response is “Your right”.

It really changed the way people feel about the conversation they are having with me, and made them feel I was more approachable/coachable.

It also reframed the way I felt about someone else over/re-explaining something. Instead of feeling bored and annoyed, I feel more that I’m being re-affirmed and living more teachable moments, and being less rude towards others.

Been a positive change for me.

Edit to add: a lot of you are hung up on my poor grammer, English is my first language and I won’t make excuses. If that is enough to detract from my message, which I believe helped a lot towards elevating me from 5 figure to a 6 figure income, then so be it. My heart was in the right place sharing my lesson, is yours?

Currently training a 6 month old 50 pound mixed breed puppy. Sometimes he barks at people because he’s anxious. Sometimes he’s excited and what’s to be their best friend. Either way I need to correct the behavior by having him refocus on me and not the other person.

The amount of people (mostly men) who try to be “helpful” by approaching us and telling my dog not to be scared is mind boggling.

People have actually follows us, both on foot and in cars, to tell me my dog is cute and they are not offended by the barking because they are dog people.

If you actually want to help someone in this situation allow the handler to correct the dog. Do not speak to either. Give them time and space to walk away.

I’m 57 now. My daughter is in her twenties, and I still remember holding her for the first time like it was yesterday. I’ve done my best to be there for her, but I’ve also made mistakes times I was too harsh, too tired, too caught up in my own struggles.

Lately, I’ve started thinking a lot about what would happen if I’m not around someday. Not out of fear, just a quiet awareness. I want her to know the things I never said out loud how proud I am, how much she changed my life, how I still see her as that little girl with scraped knees and fire in her heart.

A friend gave me a journal called When I’m Gone by Corwin Harlan. I didn’t think I’d actually write in it, but I opened it one night and ended up writing for an hour. Somehow, it gave me peace. Like if I couldn’t say everything now, maybe she’d still hear me later.

You don’t need a fancy book. Just write. Somewhere. Anywhere. Even if you think no one will ever read it. It helps. And maybe, someday, it helps someone you love too.

I tend to book my travel months for airfare, hotel and rental car as I tend to get the best prices. I've learned to always start a new reservation and check the current prices a day or two before the trip. Maybe 10-20% of the time the price has dropped substantially. I just did it this weekend for my hotel and saved a $100. Assuming there is no cancellation fee, rebook or call the business and ask them to match the new price.

Business veteran here, I hang out at some of the career subs and what I see on those, and what I've experienced in interviews that I've conducted, implies this Jobseeking Pro Tip might not be well known.

It's targeted at people going for jobs where their resume is at least a couple pages long, and they get an interview with at least one human person on the other side of the screen or table. It applies less so to someone who has a half-page resume going for their first job which does not demand specific experience.

The morning of the interview, or the night before if that's not possible, it's a solid idea to read everything that was in the documentation that you submitted as part of your application. A second element of this is to review anywhere you've posted your professional history online (e.g. LinkedIn).

I've had a number of interviews where I asked about someone's experiences in a job that they pointed out in their resume...

...and gotten a blank stare or a confused look as a result.

Perhaps what they wrote was fictional. Perhaps they forgot that it was part of their background. Perhaps...

...well, I dunno, but it sure didn't help my impression of them.

A minimum expectation is that you know your own background and can talk about it in an informed manner if you're trying to sell your abilities and experience. Being prepared to address everything you've already told the interviewing company about yourself, or already posted on professional media services that focus on job-related themes, can be a differentiator.

Curious to know which small habits or mindset shifts ended up being total game-changers over time—especially ones that don’t seem important at first.

Instead of “Work on presentation,” write “Make slide #1” or “Find one image.” Concrete, bite-sized tasks feel less intimidating and are easier to start. If you’re stuck, commit to doing just one 15-minute task, momentum usually builds from there.

Saying “no” is one of the simplest but most powerful things you can do to take care of yourself. It’s easy to fall into the trap of agreeing to every request or opportunity, even when you’re already stretched thin. But constantly saying yes leads to stress, burnout, and feeling overwhelmed. When you start saying no you’re setting boundaries that protect your time and mental energy. You don’t owe anyone a long explanation. A polite, honest no is enough. This frees you up to focus on what really matters to you and it actually helps build healthier relationships by being clear about your limits. Saying no isn’t rude; it’s necessary for your well-being.

I did know this. I learned and thought that anaphylaxis is instant, easy to see, huge symptoms. I wanted to share this because it scared the shit out of me. I did not present this way.

What happened to me was terrifying and as a result from the ER doctor and two hospitals in 12 hours, I now have to carry 2 epi pens for wasp stings.

I have never been stung by a wasp- until today.

  • First sting was a actually three to the bottom of my foot within 10 seconds
  • Instant flood of sensations through my body like a wave of dizziness and nausea -Instant panic and horrible sense things are very very bad - was feeling urgent and dizzy trying to get to my Benadryl - I can not explain this feeling- something is very very wrong and it’s making me panic hard -tried to convince myself it was a panic attack in my head and don’t need hospital
  • grabbed 50mg benedryl within 5 seconds and slathered the benedryl topical (only now I leaned you are not to mix the two) had a hard time swallowing those pills
  • one single wheezy cough where I felt phlegm, a few little hacks like dry throat -my nose felt the tiniest tiniest bit stuffed but thought it was maybe normal
  • thus all happened in 10 minutes and I was fighting denial (oh this is just a panic attack I’m just scared of the wasp)

Then my lips felt tight and pins and needles- went right to ER and told them I took the benedryl and benedryl cream within 20 seconds of the stings and the issues are stopping. Sat at the ER with symptoms diminishing. After an hour it all stopped except a sore stomach- blamed that on anxiety- checked myself out and went home (very very bad decision)

9 hours later, noticed the ache in my stomach never subsided and was getting worse, almost like a dull ache with slow cramps. I have not eaten and had no appetite since the wasp stings. Just thought I was hungry. The jittery anxious feeling came back, the uneasy something is wrong feeling came back and realized my mouth had been turning to a cotton mouth feel and swallowing felt like swallowing with a sore throat but no pain. It felt like both my tonsils were pebbles. It was a second reaction. Was driven to emergency and my skin started feeling itchy but then stopped getting worse and it was not escalating it was hanging steady so they watched me 3 hours. The earlier benedryl masked but did not stop the reaction. I sat there in a slow burn of confusion, brain fog, cotton mouth, odd feeling swallowing and suddenly , out of the blue, all symptoms left. I was in uncomfortable in my body for 12 hours with varying degrees of discomfort.

Doctor told me: first sign of cotton mouth should have been epi pen and should have shown up at ER after taking the first dose. -cotton mouth leads to airways closure and the cotton mouth was not until 9 hours later but it came on slow

Whole body reaction meets criteria for anaphylaxis (cotton mouth, lips, panic and dizziness, stomach) but if you took these separately they would be a concern of 2/10 each but together is going to overwhelm your body. Doctor said now you know with the flood of sensations with the sting you need to take an epi pen. The cotton mouth feeling is a clue to take the epi pen. The next reaction might be much faster.

I had no facial swelling, hives, wheezing or severe breathing issues and didn’t think to take this seriously and was in denial and I could have gotten much worse. That was my first sting and the doctor said if it happens again I need two epi pens ready.

When your phone is out of reach, you’re way less likely to get sucked into social media or news right before bed. A basic $10 alarm clock handles the wake-up part, and you’ll probably fall asleep faster. Getting up to turn off the alarm helps you avoid hitting snooze a hundred times in the morning.

Not the usual drink more water or wake up early — I’m talking about underrated, weird, or personal habits that actually made a real difference in your mindset, relationships, work, or mental health.

Mine: Started leaving my phone in a different room while working. My focus and productivity shot up without me even planning it.

Curious to hear yours!

A lot of times I'll grab a can of pop when thirsty and down half the can before coming up for air. Recently, instead of this, I'll drink some water first to quench my thirst, and sip on the pop afterwards. This way my pop lasts longer and I also get some water in!

Original Title: LPT: if you (like me) refuse to download TikTok but people still send you videos, delete everything after the question mark in the URL and it'll let you watch it in the browser instead of force redirecting you to download the app

Personally despise TikTok and the short form content push in general but still have friends who will send me videos and this lets me watch them without having to download the app and make an account

Original Title: LPT: Tomorrow is the 4th of July, Independence Day. Pets go lost every year due to being scared and running away from fireworks. Keep your pets inside, or leashed and safe. Even if you live in an area where fireworks are illegal because people will still set them off. Same goes for New Year’s Eve.

I live in an area prone to forest fires, and fireworks are highly illegal so I never expected to hear any. Last year, I took my dog out shortly before midnight to go potty, and someone set off an extremely loud firework that sounded like a canon. My dog got scared and took off running, but luckily, she ran back to the house. I can’t imagine what would’ve happened if she ran another direction. Keep your loved ones safe!

If you’ve upgraded your phone recently, consider repurposing your old device instead of selling it. I turned my old phone into a dedicated travel phone — I use it for offline maps, translation apps, backup photos, and local SIMs when abroad. It’s also great as a minimalist productivity device when I want to stay focused without distractions from social media or calls.

You don’t need a SIM card for most of its uses, and it saves you from putting extra wear on your main phone. Plus, having a second device can be a lifesaver if your primary phone runs out of battery or gets lost.

Many of us live sedentary lifestyles now, from sitting in office to being tired and sitting in front of the TV.

If you are reading this, stand up. Even a small step toward activity of any kind is better than none at all.

Use that standing up to stretch, walk to talk to a friend/coworker, put a blanket away, and now you have made both a healthy and functional action.

Sometimes it’s the absolute smallest things that can help you or someone else. Repeat often.
