Many of us live sedentary lifestyles now, from sitting in office to being tired and sitting in front of the TV.

If you are reading this, stand up. Even a small step toward activity of any kind is better than none at all.

Use that standing up to stretch, walk to talk to a friend/coworker, put a blanket away, and now you have made both a healthy and functional action.

Sometimes it’s the absolute smallest things that can help you or someone else. Repeat often.

If you’ve upgraded your phone recently, consider repurposing your old device instead of selling it. I turned my old phone into a dedicated travel phone — I use it for offline maps, translation apps, backup photos, and local SIMs when abroad. It’s also great as a minimalist productivity device when I want to stay focused without distractions from social media or calls.

You don’t need a SIM card for most of its uses, and it saves you from putting extra wear on your main phone. Plus, having a second device can be a lifesaver if your primary phone runs out of battery or gets lost.

Life feels lighter when you stop chasing noise.

Not every fight is worth your energy. Not every person deserves access to your peace.

A quiet mind is underrated, but it’s one of the greatest forms of wealth.

Most of us go through daily conversations on autopilot, using the same phrases, tone, and reflex responses without really thinking. It’s easy to fall into habitual scripts like “It’s okay” when it’s not, or “I’m fine” when you’re clearly not.

These small patterns seem harmless, but over time, they shape how you see yourself and how others see you/perceive you.

Instead of just focusing on changing one phrase, try this:

Start noticing what phrases you repeat without thinking—and ask whether they still reflect how you want to show up.

Do you brush things off with “no worries” even when you're frustrated? Apologize for things that aren’t your fault? Downplay compliments because it feels awkward to accept them? These are learned habits or mental shortcuts, but they can also reinforce feelings such as insecurity, guilt, or low self-confidence.

The goal isn’t to overanalyze every word, but to break out of the mental autopilot and speak more intentionally.

Small shift, big ripple effect.

The mosquitos in my large yard surrounded by trees are so bad I considered calling one of those mosquito prevention companies to come spray the tree line. Literally eaten alive within 5 minutes when you step outside. I saw a video about these cheap things called mosquito dunks and I decided to try it. I have been outside for an hour and seen maybe 5 mosquitoes. You just need a bucket, some water, old leaves and twigs, an old piece of fruit and a mosquito dunk and you’re all set! 100x cheaper than the company I was going to call and way less toxic. A 6 pack of these is like 10 bucks of less. I have a large yard so I set up a few buckets around the perimeter and it has been so helpful.

Nervousness and excitement trigger the same physiological response: faster heartbeat, adrenaline, etc. The only difference is how your brain labels those feelings. So next time you’re anxious before something big, try telling yourself: “I’m excited.” It can actually shift your mindset and make you perform better. Sounds simple, but it works and athletes, performers, and public speakers use it all the time.

It's easy for dashcams to be a set and forget but cables and SD cards don't last forever. Take 5 minutes now and go check that the SD card is still saving and not corrupting anything.

If you take a pet to the vet for euthanasia, go with them into the room where the vet ends their pain. The vet's office is a strange and unsettling place, so your pet will be afraid. Holding them in your lap will make their last moments more comfortable. (For 100+ pound Rottweilers, hold their head in your lap.)

"But it will be painful".

Yup. I know a lady who held her son's hand while the doctors turned off his life support. I know OF soldiers who have watched their comrades die on the battle field. Every month or three I read a meme on Facebook from army nurse; "We kiss their forehead and tell them they're going to be fine. Then they die."

With rare exception (see above) it's the most painful situation you'll ever be in, emotionally. (Physically, no; I once ran three fingers through a table saw. I'd be happy to hold a week's worth of dogs and cats to avoid doing that again.) You can do it. It's the right thing to do.

We are too emotional to be consistent in our 'good' choices. So it's much easier to automate at least part of the habit rather than to rely on ourselves.

For example, want to save? Build an automatic movement of $$ from your main account to your savings account as soon as the salary comes through, on your banking app.

Same for investments.

And even for say eating healthy: buying only healthy ingredients will force you to make healthy meals. Not fully automated, but it's much easier to follow this rule than to make menús and trying sticking with them.

Wired earbuds are a thing of the past for a lot of us, but a lot of audio guide devices still come with a jack output and your own earbuds will often be more comfortable than whichever audio output the guide has.

A Bluetooth transmitter might also work but YMMV on that.

With 3 kids I had quite a few nights tip toeing into my kids' room to try and slip my hand under their pillow without waking them up to exchange their baby tooth for money. Sometimes the tooth moved around so you have to search for it in the dark. If your child wakes up you had an excuse ready like oh I was just checking to see if the tooth fairy came. Then my Mom tells me they used to use a small glass of water on the night table to put the tooth in and wake up to money in the glass. Now I see little treasure chests or cute pillows you can use for the exchange. Maybe that is the norm now but I started with under the pillow and wish I knew sooner about other options. It would have saved a lot of stressful trying to be a ninja Mom nights lol

A lot of the stress of moving out ends up being all the deep-cleaning that never occurs to you until you have to move. But really these aren’t exceptionally difficult cleaning tasks, they just get forgotten easily. Keep a copy of your move-out cleaning checklist (or use an online template) as a guide for monthly deep-cleaning; things like baseboards, wiping door handle faceplates and light switches, dusting hood vents, wiping down fridge shelves, and wiping out sliding glass door tracks.

These tasks are usually small if you stay on top of them and they can be easily rotated out on a weekly basis. Then when you move, you’re just doing a once-over, not cleaning totally from scratch.

This is particularly useful when you’re planning for a trip and don’t have roaming data or access to wifi is limited. In the Google Maps app, you can download a map to use offline.

For Google Maps on iPhone:

Click on your user icon in the top right corner. Select “Offline maps”, then “Select your own map”. From there you can select an area you wish to download. You’ll be able to use this map while offline. Enjoy!

Just bought a car with cash and the dealer insisted I fill out a credit application “to make sure I’m not a terrorist” I showed them the cashier’s check from the bank and said I don’t want a hard credit pull, it stays on your record for two years and can drop your score. I even offered for them to keep the check until it clears but they refused to budge so I walked. I found a dealer that was more than happy to accept my business without any BS credit checks. The OFAC they run does not need your credit history. I later found out the dealers will shop your info around to various lenders to make money on the backend.

Shopping while hungry makes you overspend on food you do not need. If you cannot avoid it grab a banana, granola bar, or even a pack of nuts first, pay for it eat it then do your shopping. Your stomach and your budget will thankyou later.

Most of us keep todo lists to stay productive, but they can start to feel overwhelming especially when you end the day with a bunch of unchecked boxes.

Here is a simple switch that can change how you feel about your day:

Keep a “done” list alongside your todo list. Every time you complete a task (even small stuff like replying to an email, fixing a typo, or making a call), write it down.

At the end of the day, you will actually see what you accomplished, not just what you failed to get to. That small mindset shift makes a big difference it reduces guilt, improves morale, and keeps you moving forward.

Especially helpful if you are self-employed, working remotely, or doing any kind of creative work where progress is not always immediately obvious.

I could eat ice cream all day but I would be massive. I have a bag of frozen cherries and I'll pop one in my mouth and it satisfies my sweet tooth and I love the cold crunchy texture.

For years I've been complaining about certain ailments and have been told labs look good, nothing abnormal and I've been just absolutely miserable and suffering and thinking is that it for life? Started going thru my labs, turns out my thyroid had been out of range for a decade and several out of range for at least 5 years among a bunch of other technical labs I'm not familiar with that all continue directly to my complaints. Angry is an understatement. Their laziness and incompetence has taken YEARS away from me life. Almost all of my 30s. And I was constantly l directed to talk therapy. I kept ringing the alarm and no one would listen and here it is. It's not all in my head after all.

Original Title: LPT: when a friend or loved one is going through a hard time and you ask if there is anything they need, offer some suggestions like 'I can cook some meals/ pick your kids up from school/ walk the dog' etc. asking if there is anything they need is a big question and can feel overwhelming.

I used to think I needed to respond to everything immediately or people would think I didn’t care.

Once I let that go, my stress dropped, and weirdly, my communication actually got better.

Curious what silent rules others have stopped following, and what changed after.
