REPORT | Four Palestinian detainees have died in Israeli custody in just over a week, with rights groups alleging torture and medical neglect.

Mus’ab Haniyeh, 35, was killed on January 5, but Israel only revealed his death seven weeks later. Raafat Abu Funouneh, 34, was taken from Gaza on October 7 and died after months incommunicado; he had no known health issues before his arrest. Khaled Abdullah, 40, from Jenin, was imprisoned without charge and killed in Megiddo prison. Ali al-Batsh, 62, was a husband and father to six children, taken from Gaza 14 months ago and died after being moved from Naqab prison to Soroka Hospital.

Israel has disclosed the deaths of at least 62 detainees since October, many showing signs of torture.

The deaths were reported by the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society, the Commission of Detainees’ Affairs, and the General Authority of Civil Affairs.

A searchable list of named victims in Gaza since October 2023, as published by the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza, reproduced by Airwars for research purposes.

The release of the first list came after former U.S. President Biden questioned the Ministry of Health death toll in Gaza during the early months of the war. Since then, an additional six lists have been released - including more than 40,000 names.

Releasing detailed lists of victims is rare in conflict. Israeli officials have questioned MoH figures. In a disputed environment the lists are starting points for investigations & an indication of the scale of harm. But released only as Arabic PDFs, they are hard to navigate

Building on prior transliteration efforts by organisations such as tech4palestine, the tool offers users the ability to search the lists in both Arabic and English.

Users can search by ID number, as well as name, age, sex and which list(s) they appeared on. An ‘Explanatory Note’ outlines the purpose of the tool and links all MoH lists published, while ‘Search Tips’ offers suggestions to aid you in navigating the data.

Channel 13 reported that Israeli police suspect stabbing in Jerusalem’s Old City was motivated by anti-Christian hatred.

The attacker, a Jewish man, stabbed the victim—who is turned to be also Jewish but was mistaken thinking she’s a Christian—leaving her seriously injured.

Recently, attacks against Christians and their religious sites by settlers in Jerusalem have increased mostly against the Armenians and there are reports of Jewish youths spitting on Christian clergy and nuns have also surged.

"To the honorable people of Gaza,

After the events that have taken place, the temporary ceasefire, and before the implementation of Trump's mandatory plan—which will impose forced displacement upon you whether you accept it or not—we have decided to make one final appeal to those who wish to receive aid in exchange for cooperating with us. We will not hesitate for a moment to provide assistance.

Reconsider your position. The world map will not change if all the people of Gaza cease to exist. No one will feel for you, and no one will ask about you. You have been left alone to face your inevitable fate. Iran cannot even protect itself, let alone protect you, and you have seen with your own eyes what has happened. Neither America nor Europe care about Gaza in any way. Even your Arab countries, which are now our allies, provide us with money and weapons while sending you only shrouds.

There is little time left—the game is almost over.

Whoever wishes to save themselves before it is too late, we are here, remaining until the end of time."

oh and they added the following verses from the Quran on top: "We will certainly test you with a touch of fear and famine and loss of property, life, and crops. Give good news to those who patiently endure—who say, when struck by a disaster, “Surely to Allah we belong and to Him we will ˹all˺ return." They are the ones who will receive Allah’s blessings and mercy. And it is they who are ˹rightly˺ guided."

Euro-Med Monitor investigations have uncovered horrific details not posted about by the Israeli “HaMakom” website.

These details suggest that the two victims were used as human shields and that their execution was carried out by the detonatation of explosives that were still attached to the wife, if not both members of the couple, rather than by gunfire.

Following the incident, the son of the two victims, Ahmed Mohammed Fahmy Abu Hussein (38), told the Euro-Med Monitor field team that pieces of his parents’ bodies were taken from Salah al-Din Road, in the east of Gaza.

Mazyona Hassan Fares Abu Hussein’s body was reduced to nearly nothing, with an earring serving as her only identifying feature. Meanwhile, Mohammed Fahmy Abu Hussein’s right leg was completely missing, and his the right side of his body was totally disfigured, indicating that at least one member of the couple was killed by detonating explosives rather than by gunfire.

Ahmed Abu Hussein went on to say: “My father’s right leg was amputated, and the right side of his body was completely gone. It was hard to identify him other than by certain features, like a tattoo on his hand. My mother’s body was utterly destroyed; we could only make out a few pieces of her face and [were only able to] identify her by the gold-covered teeth on her jaw.”

Five Israeli army reservists were charged Wednesday with abuse and causing serious bodily harm to a Gazan detainee at the Sde Teiman detention facility in July 2024.

The indictment, filed approximately seven months after the incident, alleges that the soldiers assaulted the detainee, dragged him on the floor, stomped on him, and used a taser. The detainee reportedly suffered rib fractures, a punctured lung, and a rectal injury after being stabbed in the buttocks. The court has prohibited publication of the defendants' names.

According to the indictment, the soldiers targeted the detainee – classified as a "senior and new member" at the detention facility – during a search of security detainees. They allegedly lifted him from a mattress while his legs and eyes were covered, pressed him against a wall, and beat him.

Three other soldiers with shields stood nearby but were not indicted. The detainee "cried out in pain," began bleeding from his buttocks, and later complained of breathing difficulties and headaches. Hours later, staff noticed blood on his pants, leading to his transfer to a hospital. The indictment states that his injuries required surgery, blood transfusions, and prolonged medical care.

Following the investigation's launch last July, IDF military police detained nine soldiers, sparking protests at the base. Among the demonstrators were far-right Israeli lawmakers Nissim Vaturi, Tzvi Succot, and former minister Amichai Eliyahu. Last month, reports indicated that police sought approval to investigate the three politicians before questioning additional civilian suspects who allegedly broke into the base.

In October, Haaretz reported that Force 100 soldiers – responsible for guarding Palestinian detainees at Sde Teiman – attacked military police investigators, forcibly taking suspects from them at gunpoint and barricading themselves inside a base structure. Despite having evidence, military police delayed an investigation until January, reportedly fearing backlash from right-wing activists.

Attorneys for two defendants condemned the indictment, calling it "a low point for the military prosecution and a disgrace to the judicial system." They argued that initial allegations of sexual assault had been disproven and described the investigation as "biased and tainted."

Far-right lawmaker Itamar Ben-Gvir dismissed the charges, saying, "Instead of supporting IDF soldiers who risk their lives to protect us, the military prosecution is filing an indictment – without even including the central accusation initially leveled against them."

This is the second case of alleged abuse of Gazan detainees to result in an indictment since the war began. Two weeks ago, an IDF military court convicted a reservist of abusing detainees during their transfer to Sde Teiman, sentencing him to seven months in prison under a plea deal.
