20 years ago I sent a little microphone attached to a travel bug off to see music venues around the world. It's been a while since I have had anything to do with travel bugs and 25,000 miles later and it looks like User '4grottis' is spamming checkins with it. Unless I have it all wrong and what they are doing is legit. Can anyone please enlighten me? [This is the bug]TBHX8K (https://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?tracker=TBHX8K) Is it is because I included the code in the photo?

So I’m relatively new to caching under a year in the game. Some of the more tenured cachers in my area talk about the swag being better in the past. Can anyone that’s been long time caching give me some examples of what the swag use to be? I’m going to be hiding two large caches and would like stock them with good stuff.

I've JUST started geocaching (3 completed), with my husband and stepson. We all love the adventure and don't care about getting cool stuff, however we would like to leave some cool stuff!

With only 3 completed, we don't have the best ideas for what to put. I'm in a small town in the USA but originally from Australia, so in the first three I left some Aussie coins. I'm out of coins and looking for some new ideas!

Any ideas would be appreciated :)

Hey fellow cachers!

My wife and I (Team_Aperture) have been Geocaching for a while now - over 500 finds and counting. We absolutely love the adventures, the puzzles, the hidden creativity behind each cache, basically everything about it. There's just one thing we always struggle with... and these things are events.

Where we live, there are regular Geocaching events almost every month. And while we really want to be part of the local community, we're both massive introverts. We’re the kind of people that worry that we’ll come across as distant, awkward, or like we’re "ruining the mood" just by being quiet. It’s a bit of a psychological block, honestly.

How do other introverted cachers handle this? And from the extroverted or seasoned event-goers out there - what do you do (or what could be done) to help introverted cachers feel comfortable at events?

We thank you in advance!

i am a fairly new geocacher (about one and a half years and 140 founds), it is something i like to do when traveling to see new places and to learn about them. about a year ago, i went to a very touristy place a found an earthcache, answered all the questions and got an okay from the owner to log it. i also gave a favourite point because i liked the place (even tho i didnt discover it by gc). now, im traveling again (and gc) and while doing a cache i wanted to give a fp i learnt that you have a limit. so, i went through my founds and likes and took i few of them that, with perspective, werent that amazing (for me, obviously). the owner of the cache i talked about earlier messaged me asking why i took the fp and i explained that while i liked the cache, i learnt that there is a limit and therefore, decided to take it back. he then said that i have no idea what gc is about and that he would like to erase my log cause i got the questions wrong (again, he said they were okay). i said he was free to do it cause it is his cache and he chooses, but then he wrote again saying that he wasnt gonna erase it, that i had to either do it (erase my log) or give the fp back (not this words exactly, but basically). i feel like im being played around, cant i change my mind? i dont mind if he erases my log (even tho i dont understand the reasons) but i dont want to erase it myself, as it feels as "giving it up". is he right? am i? i dont know if i should say something else or erase the log or what ¿ sorry if there are mistakes, english is not my first language 😌

Hello r/geocaching!

Over the past couple months we have been making some major changes to Project-GC, and we're looking for your help testing the changes.

Specifically, we've redesigned the Filter system across all the ranking lists and tools to give you more precise controls. You can now apply filters separately to your own geocache finds ("pre-filters") and to the suggested geocaches ("post-filters"). This makes it easier to focus on the specific stats or challenges you're working toward.

For example, when using the Map – D/T Matrix tool, you can now pre-filter for Multi-caches to tell the system you're working on your Multi-cache D/T grid. Separately, you can apply a post-filter like Country or State to limit suggestions to geocaches near you. (Previously, you need to use the "D/T Type/size" filter to achieve this; now, pretty much any filter like "Hidden date" or "Attribute" can be set as a pre-filter.)

In addition, we've upgraded the UI framework we use from a very old version (over ten years old!) to the latest version. This should help us keep the site up-to-date with various web standards.

The Beta Site

While we're happy for this project to be wrapping up, the changes total nearly 10,000 lines of code and involve changes to large parts of Project-GC. With this comes a risk of bugs. For this reason, we've launched an alternative site to test these changes:

https://staging.project-gc.com/

This website uses the new code, but the same databases as the main site. If you are interested, we invite you to please use the staging/beta site. If you find a bug or see something unexpected, please file a bug report! To do so, you can just post a comment on this thread, ideally with a written description of what you expect along with what is happening, as well as links to the pages you're seeing issues with. Information about your browser (Chrome/Firefox, version, etc.) can be helpful too.

Broadly, we're looking for:

  1. Differences in the data produced by the main site and the staging site;
  2. Buggy interfaces (non-clickable buttons, etc.);
  3. Explicit error alerts from actions that should not produce errors; and
  4. Any otherwise-unexpected behaviour from the testing site.

(We are, however, not looking for missing translations; these will trickle in as our translators work through the strings.)

Unless we become overwhelmed by reports, we hope to have this released to the main site by the end of the week.

Have you ever found a cache inside a public library? If so, what did you like or dislike about it? Please provide the GC code if possible.
