At a Block Party yesterday some COs brought their gadget caches out from their normal locations so that attendees could try them out, I thought that was pretty neat.

What I found odd is that at least some of them were allowing finds on the caches despite them not being in their designated location. Is this a common thing at large-scale events? It would just never cross my mind to log a cache that’s upwards of a couple hundred miles of where I’m currently located.

recently iv been researching caches in the Arctic due to the amount that have no FTF and my interest in travel, quite a few of these iv found boats for hire you could use to access them, but then i found three that seem practically impossible if you’re not part of a scientific expedition.

these are GC36AQX, GC36AR4, and GC364DX and iv fallen in love with the idea of finding them, but sadly from my research it appears impossible if you’re a normal citizen.

do you guys have any similar caches you love but know are practically impossible for normal citizens to find?

Just a wee rant.

I'm fairly new to geocaching. And I still get a rush when the email comes through to say that someone has found one of my hides.

Today, the rush turned to a groan as someone informed me that they found the logbook, carefully hidden at the cache coordinates, but someone has removed the box!

I suspect that it was local kids - the cache had a few nice little toys in it. So I can't get too annoyed. But it's still a pain. Grr!

I contacted someone twice (once in 2024 and once recently) who had my trackable in their inventory for 2 years while they consistently were active in the app. Without ever replying they "placed" it in a cache after I sent the second message. I had my suspicions that they lost it but didn't want to tell me so they just logged that they put it in a cache. I quickly made a note on the cache page asking if it was actually there and the cache owner contacted me to let me know it was not.

I get not wanting to admit you screwed up, but COME ON.

At least now I know and can have a replacement tag made and have it re-released. It had gone so far though!!
