To say that I've been on hiatus would be an understatement! I'm now retired, sold pretty much everything I own and paid off my debts. After a divorce, a career lay-off and a bumpy road, I'm traveling the country in my little camper. So I bought myself a new Garmin GPS and am planning to visit some new caches. If you happen to find one of these mini-trolls, that's me! Have a great day.

I remember seeing a similar post here a while back but couldn’t find it, so figured I’d ask again.

When you pick up a trackable, do you usually check what its goal is before placing it somewhere else? I’ve seen a few end up way off from where they’re supposed to go, and it got me wondering how often people actually check.

Ammo cans are my favorite containers to find, and while I’ve hidden a few plastic ones you can find at outdoor stores, I haven’t been able to get my hands on any oftje classic metal ones. Where do all you ammo can hiders get yours?

I remember people here saying that back when Geocaching was a new and very niche hobby the swag was of higher value and quality. Some people complain that when Geocaching became widespread, the quality of many swag declined with trash items being more common. How true is this? Does anyone here remember what the swag used to look like 10 or 20 years ago?

A big pet peeve of mine when it comes to caching: While to cache is taken care of and the owner updates it regulary, the place is absolutely filthy. I hate it when you have to double check if it's the cache or a piece of trash, especially when it's in a field or a forest and out of place. I think for the future I will just keep a trash bag with me. But I also encourage cache owners to make sure you don't have to dig through trash to find a cache.

Edit: and of course, assuming it's cachers littering the place: Please do not???

I am fairly new to the geocaching world and want to make sure I don't go against norms that a newbie wouldn't know. I gave been going for fairly easy caches to get my feet wet but want to try for some more difficult ones. The other day I couldn't find a cache. Was it missing, was it there and I just couldn't find it, I don't know. But I mark it Did Not Find and got the sad face. Womp comp. However, the next day the cache was disabled with the reasoning that it was marked DNF and the mod wanted the CO to check that it was still there. So my question: is it "ok" to mark DNF so I can keep track of the caches that bested me and maybe return or should I just make a note on the online log. I would be seriously irritated if one of my caches got deactivated bc a newbie without great skills couldn't find it. What's the best thing to do here?

Hey fellow geocachers! I’m curious to hear your stories — what’s the strangest, funniest, or most unexpected item you’ve ever come across inside a geocache?

And on the flip side: what’s the weirdest thing you have ever left in a cache for others to find?

Whether it made you laugh, cringe, or just go “what the heck is this?”, I’d love to know. Photos are welcome too if you’ve got them!

What are the differences between the two?

I just recently purchased a trackable and two travel bugs, but while shopping on the geo site and also lurking this sub, I realized that they are not necessarily the same thing. I have yet to let any of them go into the wild, but I do plan to eventually, I just want to do so correctly.

Can someone pls explain the differences like I’m 5? Or give me any tips or advice?
