Lemm.ee will shut down, I requested to become the moderator of the existing !civ@lemmy.ca community. It could be better to merge these two exisiting communities than to start another one.

See you over there, please subscribe if you haven't: !civ@lemmy.ca

Announcement of the shutdown: https://lemm.ee/post/65824884

I didn't started this community, just took it over when Civ VII was announced, I saw the original mod stopped using lemmy.

There weren't much conversations here since, mostly just reposts of news and reviews. But since Civ VII was released the amount of articles diminished, so I don't expect a lot of content to be posted here in the near future.

What should happen to this community?

  • I moved to to lemmy.zip, if there is some interest I can recreate this community over there.
  • There are several other Civ communities on the lemmyverse, I can add a note/post to redirect people there. And I can continue posting the occasional news to those communities.

Other civ communities:

I can see on lemmy.ca they frequently appoint mods from other instances here: !communityrequests@lemmy.ca so using it as a new community would be possible, as I won't register there.

Other related communities, both very active:

What do you think?

Civilization VII's Content Collections offer additional paid content to expand on the game's foundation and open up new strategic possibilities for building empires you believe in!

Crossroads of the World Collection includes:

  • 2 new leaders: Ada Lovelace, Simón Bolívar
  • 4 new civilizations: Carthage, Great Britain, Nepal, Bulgaria
  • 4 new Natural Wonders: Machapuchare, Mount Fuji, Vihren, Vinicunca
  • 1 badge cosmetic bonus

If you don't want to watch smth on YT, and avoid the click:

  • Advisor movies (I, of course, wholeheartedly agree)
  • Palace Screen (I know this was one of my favourite things as a kid - even though it is completely superfluous)
  • Changing leader art (i.e. Outfits and such change with tech progress)
  • Joining Great People to cities (Like in Civ IV)
  • Hotseat Multiplayer (It may seem obsolete nowadays, but I genuinely think it does add a nice, more communal kind of MP where you don't have to bring your PCs like in a LAN)
  • Keyboard movement
  • Bigger maps
  • Release the games when I was 10 (instead of when being a sad adult)

Not sure how I feel about the gold vs production mechanic but the rest sounds really cool.

I don't know why Ars Technica has so many civ 7 reviews. Previous one was 2 weeks ago.

TLDR VerdictThe good

  • The ages system helps to solve many longstanding problems with the overall arc of a Civilization game
  • Influence yield makes diplomacy better than it's ever been
  • Tweaks and additions turn building city districts into the full realization of what VI was hinting at but never achieved
  • The visual presentation is excellent, with sprawling, intricate cities and detailed leaders
  • Several additions streamline annoying busywork the franchise is known for without curtailing depth

The bad

  • Content is light even though systems are robust; there are no scenarios at all
  • The final few turns of an age end up feeling wonky
  • You can't rename your cities for some reason

The ugly

  • Some launch-window bugs and other issues might make it worth waiting a few weeks before digging in
