So basically i want to give up on Firefox or atleast use it as secondary browser amd choosing my main browsers are hard because every chromium browser has its adv/disadv like chrome us amazing with dns adblocking in Android tablet/phone but it sucks in desktop but brave and vivaldi.is pretty good but battery life of Vivaldi is bad and brave feels shady whenever i use it so what am i supposed to do? Do recommend me anything like flags or settings for low battery consumption thanks in advance

Those of you who use Firefox instead of Chrome, what do you actually like about it? I thought I'd ask here as I might get an unbiased opinion, which is why I'm not posting this on r/Firefox.

I am constantly changing browsers due to the different features of each but for now, I just want one that has a very smooth UI. Which one do you guys recommend?

Hey guys, I'm trying to pick between the 4 browsers and would love to hear your opinions on the pros and cons of each. I was invited to participate in the Arc waitlist quite a while back so I've had a good 3-4 months of using it as my daily driver and before that I had been using Firefox for 2 years as my daily driver.

I really enjoy arc and it feels like their team really makes a concerted effort to revolutionize the browser experience but I've become more aware of the dangers of Google's monopoly on the browser market and the fact that Arc is built on top of Chromium doesn't quite sit well with me. I actually have no issue with this since Arc seems to generally be a privacy focused browser but if there's a good alternative I'd love to try it out before settling back onto a chromium based browser. I've also seen ppl dissing Arc's memory/CPU performance in many other threads and so would love to try something else that's maybe a bit more optimized.

I was perfectly fine with Firefox before switching to arc but going back now, I'm starting to notice minor annoyances in speed and overall loading performance. It has a subpar pdf viewer and I've gotten so used to vertical tabs that it annoys me a little to not have them anymore (could probably get used to horizontal tabs again tho)

In the hopes of optimizing my mac performance and battery life, I want to give safari a genuine shot but the biggest problem with safari is their extension library. I think it's much snappier than all of the other browsers I've tried on mac and I think the compact layout is pretty neat but I ABSOLUTELY need to have the option to ctrl-tab back to my most recently used tab and safari just doesn't have this feature baked into it which is really quite a dealbreaker for me as it's my most used workflow on a browser. There also isn't a good ad-blocker or video speed controller on safari and their devtools aren't as intuitive as chromium based browsers which is such a shame because it seems like a genuinely good browser in every other regard.

I tried out Orion for a bit and it seems really promising because it fixes a lot of my gripes with Safari (native vertical tabs, MRU tab switching) but their extension support is iffy at best and the browser as of now just feels a little unpolished and buggy to fully switch over as my daily driver. I notice that on some pages, the browser just freezes up or bugs when attempting to switch between tab groups so while it seems really promising I don't know if I can quite use this as my daily. Really happy that this exists tho and I'd love to support their team if I had the money right now.

I've also ruled out some of the other players like Edge (too cluttered and I just can't get myself to like it), Vivaldi (too much customization and some speed hits), Brave (also chromium so i'd just pick arc over this :/ )

Sorry for the noobq, but if it's not, what's the point?

Thing is, when signed into Gmail and you do a search, it automatically searches using your Google account?

In the world of browsers several things have happened this year:

  • Workspaces in many browsers (less Chrome and Firefox natively): Vivaldi, Edge, Floorp, and more.

  • Better Tab Groups in many browser (less Chrome and Firefox natively): Brave, Opera and more.

  • Better privacy: Librewolf as independent version of Firefox, for example.

  • And more...

But it remains:

  • The great update of Stack Next (Stack Browser) -> this week

  • The landing of Arc Browser (already in release) to Windows -> winter

Anything else?

Now that the subreddit is dead, what is the easiest and most accessible firefox community. I heard about lemmy or something. Mozilla also has a mastodon server. Does anyone know anything else?

I thought it had been abandoned like Bromite since there hadn't been any updates for six months, but thankfully it was updated yesterday.

This app is not a fork of Firefox, but a browser that has forked GeckoView.

Furthermore, it's the only browser that allows you to sideload AMO add-ons directly.

Anyway, it's a very excellent browser, and I highly recommend those who have never tried it to give it a shot.

i use firefox right now, past year have been using it and its been a alright experience.

I've missed syncing between devices, (firefox mobile isnt that good in my opinion)

generally, its been a good experience i havent had much problems with firefox, apart from the heavy rescource usage, some websites refusing to load properly,

what i love about firefox is it's privacy, desktop ui

if i would want to switch to chrome, i would need to sacrifice my privacy for google. which i dont really want

i dont trust opera because chinese company

brave would be an alright option but crypto worries me.

edge is chrome but microsoft, and i dont want to sign in with a microsoft account on windows pc.

vivaldi is closed source and just slow.

what browser do i choose?

i want performance, privacy, sure brave would be a good option, but the sync is a bit weird that its not using sign in, but adblocker by default, sounds literally awesome!

thanks

I used to use IE mode with Edge as a workaround for WebP so I could keep the original image format and metadata, but now images won't even load as tabs anymore and will instantly attempt to download as a WebP.

So, now I'm trying (and failing) to find an alternative (if there is even one anymore). I've tried some extensions, disabling WebP in Firefox (which, funnily enough, doesn't disable WebP), disabling WebP in the registry, using the CMD line, messing around with the URL, etc.

Also, simply changing the file extension type or copying an image directly into something like paint or any other image editor does not give you the original image.

It's probably a long shot to ask this, but does anyone know an actual way around this?

I'm just curious to see what forks of Firefox other people like. Personally I like Floorp because of it's security and easier customization. Please comment your favorite and why!

I run on a laptop and I have a pretty heavy workflow. I have ALOT of tabs open because of research, youtube etc.

Firstly, I'd like to disclose "The Privacy Problem" I get that it's a big problem for many people as their data is sold AFAIK but honestly a crazy privacy based browser isn't what I'm looking for.

Here's the Criteria. I want a browser that is lightweight - low cpu, battery, ram usage. Something I can tabsort/arrange with - since I have alot of tabs open. Not something that's too minimal or too bloated. I've checked out qute, min and I don't really like those.

I use firefox but i'm not liking the current feel. On most videos I checked Opera was apparently the best for my case but the reddit is always better. I've heard of ungoogled chromium etc but I don't know. So what should I use?

I have been a desktop user of Firefox since one of it's very early versions, but it feels like I am going to have to make the move to Chrome. The two critical things that are forcing the switch:

  1. All Google sites feel impaired. Running a Google search in the address bar works less than half the time. Open Google Calendar and it often doesn't load, including clicking a Google Meet link to connect (making for stressful starts to meetings). Clicking a search result from Google often doesn't load, so have to hit back and try multiple times. I have tried about every fix I can find online for it including changing settings (e.g. 0rt), browser removal and reinstall, and it followed me between devices. I worry that it's Google causing the compatibility issues. I don't have any issues with any other platforms or sites. I have been putting up with this issue for at least 1-2 years, through many versions.
  2. Despite all the hassle of refreshing the browser to get Google products working, the final nail in the coffin was Firefox breaking its support for Ledger.

I hope someone can give me hope that Firefox is worth keeping, but I think I'm done.

Does anyone else experience issues with Google products in Firefox or am I being targeted for conversion? 😆

I am having problems with Edge trying to make tabs sleep when I have it disabled. I have also tried specifically typing websites in that I "never want to sleep," and Edge just ignores my input and puts them to sleep anyway. I have generally less than 25 tabs open at any given time, and I know there are people out there who have exceeded this times over and should have some suggestions for a browser that leans toward "no sleeping tabs" vs defaulting to sleeping tabs, or at least handles multiple tabs better than Edge seems to. I have been losing saved files that operate in browser-based programs and have to reload them every time the tab sleeps. Suggestions are desired.

I've been having this problem for over a month. While everything is normal in version 114, CPU usage increases when I open a few tabs. CPU returns to normal when closing Firefox and using Brave browser. Web browsing is smooth and quiet in Brave.

Old versions of chrom(ium)e and firefox have been on my mind a lot lately, does anyone purposefully use an outdated version of their favorite browser and if you do, why? How do you combat the security risks? Which version of the browser do you use?
