Firstly, thank you devs for such a wonderful addition to the game. You got it right with the school bus.
I grew up riding a school bus from the generation that the MD series bus represents. A number of little things in the bus really bring it to life, and I want to share them with you, if you are uninitiated to this uniquely American experience.
I have many friends from Europe, and when they come to visit me in the states, every single one of them has expressed amusement when they see a yellow school bus in the wild. “OMG it’s like the movies!”
So for those of you who have never ridden an American school bus, please allow me to point out some small details that may, in my humble personal opinion, enhance your appreciation of this high quality addition to the game:
- Sometimes I would sit at the front of the bus and watch the driver operate the controls. I remember studying the driver’s area with interest. I thought it was cool, I guess. When driving the bus with interior camera view, the boxy dashboard panel to the left of the steering wheel, and the fan are modeled perfectly, and to see them actually brought back some childhood memories.
- Emergency exits. Pay attention to the side window, roof, and rear door emergency exits. It is awesome that they made these functional. Every year, we would have a day where they put all the kids on the bus to explain how they worked, and then make us all exit out the back door.
American school buses typically have no cold air conditioning, only heating, so in the summer they can get hot. I would pray that the driver would partially open the roof exit to vent hot air. Please open the roof vent of your bus to keep your imaginary passengers happy.
Also, I used to have intrusive thoughts about opening that little red latch on the window emergency exit. Devs got it perfect. It’s right there… I could just open it… it’s calling to me
- Tail swing. When turning sharply, pay attention to how much the rear of the bus swings. As a child, my bus route had a part where the driver would turn around in a bumpy gravel lot with big potholes. So if you sat in the very back row and he happened to hit the holes with the back wheels, you could sort of “jump” in your seat and cause yourself to be launched in the air while the bus was swinging sideways. Totally awesome.
So the first thing I did with the new bus was do sharp turns on bumpy areas. hell yes
- The passenger view camera gives a perfect feel for being a rider. All the details are right. Enjoy it.
- I believe school buses are legally required to operate with the white roof strobe at all times. And it was sometimes annoying as shit if you ever rode the bus at night. The light would bounce off nearby buildings and trucks and be irritating. DON’T YOU DARE OPERATE THE MD SERIES BUS WITHOUT THE STROBE, OKAY?

Okay, that’s all for this silly little post. Just some memories brought to life by the MD school bus. Devs did a good job. Thank you for this gift.
TL;DR: BeamNG player when bus
