Hey all, I was hoping the mod of this community @[email protected] would surface with the recent news of lemm.ee closing down on June 30 but no.

I have taken up the offer from @[email protected] (its creator) to migrate the posts from this community over to piefed.social though anyway, so they're not lost. The community will live on.

Please don't post any more on this instance now. I can update this post as soon as the migration is complete.

Cheers,

So this community's instance (and mine!) -- lemm.ee -- is shutting down on June 30.

https://lemm.ee/post/65824884

I received an invitation to move the posts over to piefed.social. Unless someone feels like that's a bad idea, that will happen. If anyone knows how to reach the mods, that seems like a good idea. @craftyindividual

Thanks so much to everyone who made this a great place to share beauty for the last couple of years.

Among Salvador Dalí’s many memorable works, perhaps none is more deeply embedded in the popular imagination than Venus de Milo with Drawers, a half-size plaster reproduction of the famous marble statue (130 /120 BC; Musée du Louvre, Paris), altered with pom-pom-decorated drawers in the figure’s forehead, breasts, stomach, abdomen, and left knee. The combination of cool painted plaster and silky mink tufts illustrates the Surrealist interest in uniting different elements to spark a new reality.

After decades as a representational painter, in her seventies Alma Thomas turned to abstraction, creating shimmering, mosaic-like fields of color with rhythmic dabs of paint that were often inspired by forms from nature. The artist had been fascinated with space exploration since the late 1960s, and her later paintings often referenced America’s manned Apollo missions to the moon.

Edward Chalmers Leavitt, a native of Providence, Rhode Island, was an early New England painter said to be the most renowned still life painter of his day in Providence, although today he is largely forgotten.

Little is known of Leavitt's career. Most of his paintings featured tabletop arrangements of flowers, fruit, antiques and vintage bric-a-brac, and were sought after by the Victorian middle class. The oil on canvas paintings often were marked by their sense of texture. During the 1870s and 1880s Leavitt frequently exhibited at the National Academy of Design. But as the new century approached, Leavitt's output and quality declined, and his reputation faded.
