Hi all! I'm going to be married later this year, and everyone is asking me to get a registry together... but I don't really "need" anything. I've been living in an apartment and so I have most everything I need, and I reject the notion that just because I'll be married, that people "need" to get me something. For people that feel like they should gift me something, I'd love to just ask for cash so that I can save for when I truly need something, but I'm sure that there are those who will tell me that they don't want to do that. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks!

Gardener James Prigioni set out to see if an Amazon shipping box would hold up as a planter for potatoes. He took a basic single-walled Amazon box, lined it with dried leaves to help with moisture retention, added four to five inches of soil (his own homegrown soil he makes), added three dark red seed potatoes, covered them with more soil, added a fertilizer, then watered them.

He also planted a second, smaller Amazon box with two white seed potatoes, following the same steps.

Two weeks later, he had potato plants growing out of the soil. Ten days after that, the boxes were filled with lush plants.

Personally, I don’t love carrying my garbage around with me, but I recognize that it wouldn’t exist without my intervention. Nobody ran up and asked me to hold an empty cup. I thoughtlessly bought something. Thoughtlessly consumed it, and now I have to hold onto the detritus for a little while? Great. It’s easy. Easy to embrace that modicum of responsibility for your own waste. This is my protest song, the world’s lamest: I will attend to my garbage without complaint.

Americans are snacking less — and that's a problem for the packaged food industry.

Why it matters: After years of inflation, consumers are recoiling, fed up with food price increases and suddenly immersed in economic uncertainty.

Driving the news: General Mills on Wednesday became the latest food giant to sound the alarm about what CEO Jeff Harmening called a "slowdown in snacking."

I think this is very important from the perspective of (in-)direct anticonsumption!

I just remembered this documentary and this seemed like a good place to share it for anyone unfamiliar

Curious of the ways you are avoiding buying mass-produced junk as gifts for people this holiday season. Share your ideas and tips, what you make or do, or how you otherwise partake of the joys of togetherness this time of year, without consuming for the sake of consumption.
