The strike took place following months of protest from Indian farmers, a response to three farm acts passed by the Parliament of India in September 2020. According to protesters, the farm acts would leave small farmers, the vast majority, at the mercy of large corporations. Poor farmers were already desperate before the laws were passed - in 2019 alone, 10,281 agricultural workers committed suicide.

Dozens of farm unions began organizing protests demanding the repeal of these laws. After failing to get the support of their respective state governments, the farmers decided to pressure the Central Government by marching to Delhi en masse.

The farmers arrived at Delhi on November 25th, 2020 and were met by police, who employed the use of tear gas and water cannons, dug up roads, and used layers of barricades and sand barriers to try and stop their march.

On November 26th, 250 million workers from all over the country initiated a general strike in solidarity with the farmer's struggle. According to Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research, trade unions issued a twelve-point charter of demands which included "the reversal of the anti-worker, anti-farmer laws pushed by the government in September, the reversal of the privatisation of major government enterprises, and immediate [Covid] relief for the population".

Farmer protests continued for more than a year, featuring mass marches, clashes with police, and many failed negotiations between farmers' unions and the government. Rakesh Tikait, a leader with Bharatiya Kisan Union (English: Indian Farmers' Union) stated in October 2021 that approximately 750 participants have died in the protest.

Among the dead was a Senior Superintendent of Police in the city of Sonepat, who committed suicide, saying he could not bear the pain of the farmers. His suicide note read "Bullets fired from the guns kill only those whom they strike. The bullet of injustice, however, kills many with a single stroke... It is humiliating to suffer injustice."

In a televised address on November 19th, 2021, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that his government would repeal the three acts in the upcoming winter parliamentary session in December. The national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Rakesh Tikait, stated the protests would only cease once the laws were repealed.

The film actor Deep Sidhu also joined the protests, and was quoted as having told a police officer the following: "Ye inquilab hai. This is a revolution. If you take away farmers' land, then what do they have left? Only debt."

Okay I'm watching Dune. I played the video game, and watched the miniseries 25 years ago while I was drunk as a skunk and only remember being really amused by chanting "MUAD'DIB" repeatedly.

Anyway, are the handsome space fascists or the fat space fascists the good guys? I can't tell yet.

E: also they are giving him whey training, which I am pretty sure isn't cruelty-free

Covid is super cool because if you still believe it's real you're deep, deep in to that territory where people are motivated by fear and consequence, and they're surrounded by an indiferent or hostile society that doesn't share their belief, and they're getting conflicting information from authorities and it's undercertain which authorities to trust and whether a given piece of information can be trusted, and there are geopolitical forces driving the official acceptance or rejection of data, and it's turned in to a culture war issue.

And when you put people in that space you get cults.

To an outside observer who has bene told that "Covid is over" and "Covid is mild" and blah blah blah whatever what is observably different between a covid person saying they won't bring their kids to the holiday because they don't want the kids getting sick and a 5g truther saying they won'tt bring their kids to the holiday because they don't want the kids getting sick?

I hate it.

We're all very small creatures with extremely, frighteningly limited ability to access information and evaluate what information to treat seriously and what to discard. I think I'm correctly assessing that Covid is still a real and serious threat and that I should take steps to avoid it, but I also look across the internet at the 5g people and the seed oils people and the homeopathy people and shudder and think "Oh god what if I, too, am trapped in a prison of false beliefs such that I cannot even see the walls of my cage?"

Oh btw we got Mr. Softie a flea collar, he looks so cute with it on, ah but he's not a happy camper about it lol, he likes being naked instead. Here's to hoping it's just fleas and his itching stops 🤞

spoilers for the most recent Dr Who episodeFucking cowards couldn't be bothered to kill Donna off. Beep the Meep returning was a poor move, the only people who care about it are diehard fans who already know its shtick and therefore saw the episode twist coming. The bug cop things were rad though.

Overall I would rate it meh, and I'll likely forget the entire plot of the thing by this time next week.

I would like to meet someone who's really good at guitar who's style is 'doing exactly what I tell them'. I'm left handed and clumsy as shit on guitar (I can play bass pretty well) but what I can do is write songs really really well. I've been in only bands that collaborate, I wanna just do all the writing and give it to someone who does what I wrote.

Import/export store variety hour - Goya Tropi-Cola Sparkling Cola (Mexico/LatAm/US) and Tarkun/Tarkhuna (Georgia, Slavic countries).

The Tropi-Cola (drank at my workbench as I feverishly worked to repair a trace I practically ripped off a circuit board in a desolder gone bad) tasted like liquefied circus peanuts. Sugar definitely carried the flavor - Not necessarily bad, but not really my kind of thing either. Too sweet to strike me as particularly pleasant or refreshing.

In contrast, the Tarkun is much more of an herbal flavor. I was kind of expecting it to be insanely sweet too since the deep green color reminded me of Mountain Dew or Green River, but it's got a fairly mild floral taste that turned out to be Tarragon. Pretty clean flavor, nice and mellow - I found it pretty pleasant.

Why has blue chew not yet hired Mullen to do a TV commercial?

Boner commercials are always old dudes in bathtubs near a buddy of water.

Imagine the unhinged shit he’d do with a budget and captive audience of tv viewers.
