If you’re just joining us, Israeli forces are fighting near Gaza’s Indonesian hospital, where thousands of patients and displaced people have been sheltering for weeks.

Health officials have managed to evacuate some of the wounded, but a medical worker inside the facility and the Health Ministry said a shell struck the second floor of the hospital, killing 12 people.

The health official blamed Israel, which denied shelling the hospital, saying its troops returned fire on militants who targeted them from inside the 3.5-acre (1.4 hectare) compound.

Chinese authorities congratulated Javier Milei on his victory in Sunday's runoff but warned it would be a step in the wrong direction for Argentina to cut ties with Beijing.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said Tuesday it would be a “big mistake” for Argentina's future government to cut ties with “countries as big as Brazil and China,” something now President-elect Javier Milei has warned during his campaign. In addition, Milei's proposed Foreign Minister Diana Mondino assured that “we will stop interfering with the Brazilian and Chinese governments.”

“The relationship with both countries will be excellent as it should be,” but “we must distinguish what is the Government from what is the State,” Mondino had also said. just watched it, some thoughts:

• I don't understand why he didn't just stick by his initial reaction to 10/7 ["moral consistency commands that we honor the heroic resistance in Gaza"]. it was completely acceptable and defensible, yet Piers confronts him about it and he says "we didn't know how many people died until 10 days after" which makes it seem like he's backtracking from his opinion.

• I don't get this thing he's been saying in every interview about the "moral quandary" he was in and how he had to talk to Chomsky and think about what his parents would say and do research into abolitionists just to know how to react to this. he's the leading scholar on this, more well-versed on the topic than anyone here, how could he not have come to the same conclusion we all did on 10/7?

• he makes an extremely funny analogy where he compares Gazans to Susan Boyle?

• he basically says he regrets his initial comments but didn't want to take it down because that'd be "intellectually dishonest"

• he does say if his parents had heard about what happened on 10/7, they wouldn't have condemned it/would have understood it

• he doesn't actually tweet himself, but sends his thoughts to people who decide what to tweet on his behalf

Hamas says will delay release of second round of captives

Hamas’s armed wing says it will delay the release of the second batch of captives, accusing Israel of not abiding by the terms of the truce deal.

In a statement on the messaging app Telegram, the Qassam Brigades said Israel should allow aid trucks to enter the northern Gaza Strip and to adhere to the “criteria” that was agreed upon – namely seniority – to release the Palestinian prisoners.

Israel has used the October 7 attack by Hamas to destroy many norms. The biggest ones have gotten the most notice, those that are part of genocide and ethnic cleansing. But there's more, and it's going to have profound effects on warfare going forward. Israel has intentionally targeted civilians, hospitals, ambulances, schools, journalists, UN shelters, humanitarian workers, and civilian infrastructure of all kinds. They've done these things before but never on this scale and never so openly.

Israel has made no effort to hide these acts. On the contrary, they have tried to justify them as intentional acts. They've been supported in this by the US and EU. In the future, other countries will do the same and opposition will only reinforce the already widely held view that there are no rules, just what the US will allow its friends and forbid others.

The US and Israel have struck what could be a mortal blow to the fledgling effort to establish international laws that protect civilians. Congratulations.

Houthi Launch Long-Range Missiles Toward Israel in New Attack

"We will continue to carry out more military operations until the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank stops," the Houthis said.

On Wednesday, Yemen's Houthi rebels said that they have launched long-range missiles toward Israel, in a new operation to revenge the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

"The winged missiles targeted various military targets of the Israeli entity in Eilat," the militia's spokesman Yehya Sarea said in a statement aired by the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.

"We will continue to carry out more military operations until the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank stops," he said, without providing further details.

This is the ninth cross-border missile attack claimed by the Yemeni Houthi fighters since the Israel-Hamas conflict broke out on Oct. 7.

The United States announced last month that one of its navy ships in northern Red Sea intercepted several missiles fired from Yemen toward Israel.

On Sunday, the Houthis announced that they had hijacked what they said an "Israeli ship" near Bab-el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea and took it to the port city of Hodeidah.

On Monday, the Houthis released footage showing that they used a military helicopter and boats when they hijacked the ship.

The Houthis have been in control of much of northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa and the strategic Red Sea port city of Hodeidah since the Yemeni civil war broke out in late 2014.
