Breadtube if it didn't suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.

Loving our replybot giving us instance links.

I dunno man, that shit smacks of redditor vibes IMO.

Well maybe one day Lemmy will automatically provide us alternative links, but for now I'm appreciating it. Even opening up vids in incognito contributes to how YouTube serves your IP recommendations and there's slop I'd just rather not have to worry about being associated with.

Also, you know you can turn off bots in your settings, right?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

That's beyond lemmy's scope, though I suppose a client could do it. Bots are just fine

The enshittification is complete. The era of peertube/invidious/piped has begun!

honestly youtubers have a gazillion social media handles nowadays so it's not even worth having an account.

keep updating the "quick fixes" list in ublock, they're consistently outpacing youtube for me

i think it's only me who hasn't seen an ad on youtube yet. i haven't even done anything special afaik?

[–] [email protected] 27 points 2 years ago (1 children)

it finally defeated my adblocker and hit me with the "enable ads or pay me" mother fucker, I'll pay your headquarters a visit why don't I

just curious bc i also haven't had a problem, what browser/ad blocker are you using?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Firefox, I had 3 going but when I disabled the other 2 and just left Ublock origin it started blocking it again, so I guess they fight each other

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

ah yea that makes sense, thanks for the info!

I also haven't experienced any adblocker failures on youtube yet, with firefox & ublock origin.

I just started getting the notices on my incognito windows, but not my regular views.🤷‍♂️

So far my adblocker is winning, I got a few times where the video froze and the audio kept going, but even that seems to have stopped for now.

I like how the guys programming the Firefox ad blocker extension are racing to outrun Youtube and sometimes overtaking them.

I just open youtube links in a private/incognito window now

Also using firefox and ublock. It hasn't gotten me yet, but I'm dreading the day because it's seemingly being rolled out to more and more people everyday.

They're doing it so slowly to limit the number of people they piss off at once. By the time the last batches of users get the rollout, the first batches will have already burnt out being extremely angry about it.
