I mean there literally was an annular (moon smaller than sun) eclipse just a few weeks ago going through the US, with plenty of images in media.

The moon’s orbit is slowly drifting away from Earth. It just so happens that we exist at (almost) the perfect point in time for the moon and sun to appear the same size in our sky.
