holding flashlight under face

Imagine a terrifying world where we are all ruled by monsters of every stripe. And not hot ones like werewolves, but instead decaying zombies and mummies who are both insensitive to, and actively benefit from the immense suffering they cause on a daily basis. The top echelon of society, filled with profit-seeking, bloodsucking vampires. And the worst of it is that they repeat on a daily basis that what they are doing is not only just, but there is no other possible way to do it.

Pretty spooky, right? What if I told you that this world... was our own?

Happy Halloween!

Friendly reminder: when commenting about a news event, especially something that just happened, please provide a source of some kind. While ideally this would be on nitter or archived, any source is preferable to none at all given.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is Lebanon! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The bulletins site is down.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Add to the above list if you can.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Hospital treating Jabalia patients warns it’s running out of fuel

The Jabalia refugee camp, a residential neighbourhood as everybody knows, was levelled to the ground by the Israeli strikes. This attack claimed the lives of Palestinians and wounded hundreds of others who are now receiving treatment at the Indonesian Hospital in the north of the Gaza Strip. This hospital has been overwhelmed by patients and displaced people who evacuated from their houses. The Indonesian Hospital also announced today that they will be running out of fuel within the coming hours if there are no fuel shipments delivered.

Judging from this mapping there's been a huge escalation on the Lebanon border today, we knew that already of course but interesting to see it mapped.

spoiler❗️🇮🇱🇵🇸 Tension Escalates in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Zone

Update as of November 2, 2023

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are continuing their operation in the Gaza Strip. However, there is no substantial evidence from either side to support the claim that the enclave capital is completely surrounded. Hamas groups report fighting in the eastern Zeitoun region, while the IDF releases footage from the coastal area. Despite this, the Israelis have successfully advanced over 5 kilometers into the sector from the north. Today, fighting occurred near the Al-Khalidiya mosque, which is located near the Al-Rashid coastal highway. To the south, the Israelis are operating on a section of the Salah ed-Din highway in an attempt to cut off Gaza City from supplies from the south.

The IDF continues to launch mass attacks on populated areas in the Palestinian enclave. In the Breij camp, several strikes throughout the day resulted in the deaths of dozens of people, with over a thousand listed as missing.

The situation on the border with Lebanon is rapidly escalating. Hezbollah fighters have carried out multiple strikes on IDF strongholds, and the local branch of the Palestinian al-Qassam Brigades has attacked Kiryat Shmona with rockets, causing injuries to civilians. In response, the IDF has launched strikes on suspected missile launch sites, resulting in civilian casualties as well.

Mass detentions of Palestinians in the West Bank are ongoing. Near Kibbutz Beit Lid, several Israeli soldiers were ambushed and killed. In the evening, clashes broke out in Jenin, resulting in injuries to several Israeli security forces and Palestinian demonstrators.

To the best of our knowledge, what did Hamas actually do? What was the timeline of events?

I just want to be informed and not get blindsided when people bring stuff up, and I think knowing what actually happened helps you spot when things don't add up.

Not trying to feed into the :international-community: thing where westerners laser focus on Hamas bloodshed while ignoring what led to it.

Unverified -- An Arabic reader who can trawl Afghanistan news could verify:

🚨The Iranian Ministry of Security, in cooperation with Afghanistan’s intelligence, arrested 3 Mossad agents holding Iranian nationality who intended to launch a swarm of drones to target several sites in Iran.

They were located in mountainous areas between Iran & Afghanistan. And suspected of launched Harop drones.

This news is published by Afghanistan news outlets only so far

Only good thing? The Israeli MIC is like "We want to do war crimes faster. The hostages are getting in the way of our progress."

Israeli PM adviser: Only good thing about hostage video is proof of life

Mark Regev is a senior advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netayahu and has been speaking to our chief international correspondent Lyse Doucet.

"The only good thing about this video is we have visual proof these women are alive", he says when asked about the video of three hostages released by Hamas earlier.

Regev says he cannot imagine the pain the hostages are experiencing on a daily basis.

He adds: "We don’t believe that Hamas is going to release these hostages because suddenly Hamas is becoming boy scouts or a humanitarian organisation... Hamas is a brutal, ruthless, extreme, barbaric organisation... We've seen the sort of violence they're capable of first-hand."

He goes on to say Hamas will only release hostages "if they're under pressure" and Israel believes the best way to do that is ratchet up the military pressure on the group at the same time as putting international diplomatic pressure on its allies.

The city of Sderot is one of the closest places you can get to near the Gaza border and you can usually have a clear view into the northern parts of the enclave.

I’ve been here watching the war inside Gaza. It means we’ve been able to see the evidence of Israeli’s constant bombardment into the north – building after building that is damaged or completely destroyed.

The whole area looks like a big grey pile of ash, because any of the buildings that are left standing are covered in concrete dust. It’s actually pretty eerie to look at. An explosion in a night sky

Almost every few seconds, we hear the battle unfolding on the ground.

War planes fly overhead and then we hear a huge explosion – we see a massive plume of smoke rise into the sky. Another airstrike.

Suddenly there are several loud bangs close by. Israeli tanks stationed near the Gaza border are firing from the ground into the Strip. I see several bright flashes of light, as artillery is fired.

I can hear machine guns as Hamas militants are locked in gun battle with Israeli troops on the ground.

It sounds like it’s coming from the north but we can’t be sure because the Israeli military isn’t really telling us a lot of information of what’s happening on the ground.

Sderot cinema but it's journalism

Check out the quote - "When I see a Palestinian child..." What a fucking liar he is.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken will discuss steps Israel “can and should” take to minimize civilian casualties during his upcoming visit to Tel Aviv.

“[W]e will be talking about concrete steps that can and should be taken to minimize harm to men, women, and children in Gaza, and this is something that the United States is committed to,” Blinken said Thursday.

While the secretary didn't offer any other details, he did reiterate that the topic is on the agenda for the visit. Blinken is expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other leaders of the Israeli government, according to the State Department.

“When I see a Palestinian child, a boy or a girl pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building, that hits me in the gut as much as seeing a child in Israel or anywhere else. So this is something that we have an obligation to respond to, and we will,” he said. Asked if Israel had shown restraint in its offensive in Gaza, Blinken did not offer a yes or no answer, and instead reiterated that Israel has the right to defend itself and the "responsibility to do everything possible to protect civilians."

He said that this was "a crossfire ... of Hamas' making."

Blinken leaves Thursday for a trip to Israel, Jordan, Japan, South Korea and India. He emphasized again on the tarmac ahead of his trip that the US is “determined to deter any escalation.”

Blinken also added that there must be a focus on what comes next.

“We do have to have conversations now about how we can best set the conditions for a durable, sustainable peace, durable, sustainable security for Israelis and Palestinians alike," he said.

Israel shelling vicinity of several hospitals in northern Gaza: Official

The Israeli army is carrying out “intense bombings” around several hospitals in the north of the Gaza Strip, shortly after telecommunications were cut, a Hamas spokesman has said.

“For more than an hour, intense bombings have been taking place around hospitals,” said Salama Marouf, the head of the government’s media office.
