Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

holding flashlight under face

Imagine a terrifying world where we are all ruled by monsters of every stripe. And not hot ones like werewolves, but instead decaying zombies and mummies who are both insensitive to, and actively benefit from the immense suffering they cause on a daily basis. The top echelon of society, filled with profit-seeking, bloodsucking vampires. And the worst of it is that they repeat on a daily basis that what they are doing is not only just, but there is no other possible way to do it.

Pretty spooky, right? What if I told you that this world... was our own?

Happy Halloween!

Friendly reminder: when commenting about a news event, especially something that just happened, please provide a source of some kind. While ideally this would be on nitter or archived, any source is preferable to none at all given.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is Lebanon! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

This week's first update is here.

Links and Stuff

The bulletins site is down.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Add to the above list if you can.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

altAn ooze enhanced super giant rat wearing a Hamas headband and a Chinese emperor ceremonial headdress throws a fireball at the police headquarters in 1 Police Plaza, NYC. Two items of text say “THE WEST IS NEXT,” and “UNLIMITED GENOCIDE ON THE 1st WORLD.”

There’s also a picture of Eric Adams giving a presentation about the rat population in NYC with the text “OUR DAY IS COMING.”

Finally there’s a picture of a weird green ooze spilling onto a Manhattan street from the underground, a picture that’s been circulating around the Internet today. Edited in there is a rat and Mr. Resetti from the video game Animal Crossing.

This process of drawing political legitimization from a sacred text can lead to fanaticism with dangerous consequences. The Bible, for instance, has references to genocide: the Amalekites were killed to the last by Joshua. Today there are those, thankfully for now only a fanatical minority, who refer not only to the Palestinians as Amalekites but also to those who are not Jewish enough in their eyes.

"thankfully for now only a fanatical minority" - christ, Ilan Pappe wrote this in 2017 and we've already seen Netanyahu call the Palestinians 'Amalek'

Israeli tanks ‘pushing towards’ Gaza city’s downtown area

Safwat Kahlout reporting from central Gaza

Israel is … pushing tanks towards the downtown, specifically towards the al-Shifa hospital which is located in the heart of Gaza city.

From the southern part of Gaza city, the Israeli tanks already stationed at Salahuldin main road, and they are advancing or pushing towards the coastal road known as Rashid street – so, they are controlling the two main roads that link Gaza city with the rest of the Gaza strip.

We learned from witnesses who managed to flee or to escape from Gaza city towards the south, that thousands of people from the north of Gaza city itself now are heading towards al-Shifa hospital, seeking shelter.

Heavy exchange of fire is taking place between fighting groups and the Israeli tanks that are trying to push forward inside the downtown.

I'd call this the full attack order.

https://streamable.com/o1ugzx

"Southern command units, this is the commander.

We are going on the offensive against Hamas and the terrorist organizations in the Gaza strip.

Our only goal: victory

No matter how long the fight takes and no matter how hard it will be, there is no other result than victory.

We will fight professionally, powerfully and according to the principles of the defense forces that we were brought up on and in their forefront; being determined to achieve the mission, and constant striving for victory.

We will fight in the alleys, the tunnels and wherever we need to. And we will strike this brutal enemy that we are facing.

My brothers in arms; the residents of Be'eri, Sderot, Nir Oz, Kfar Aza, the towns of the west of Negev, and with them all the people of Israel, are watching us now.

Like me, they trust you and believe in you. You are the victory generation.

This is the commander, move to achieve your missions, strike the enemy. The end."

Reaction to Nasrallah speech split in Lebanon

There were people who were anticipating Nasrallah’s speech with high expectations that Nasrallah was going to go for all out war. These people are upset. They think Nasrallah’ speech was mainly about the rhetoric and there was no real substance in it. This is one team.

There’s another team which is Nasrallah’s supporter base. They are going to accept Nasrallah, whatever he says.

And there’s a third team, which is the team that is concerned about the war. It doesn’t want to see Lebanon getting into this war. Some of them are kind of relieved. They think that Nasrallah’s speech today distanced Lebanon, in a way, from the war, despite the fact he didn’t rule out that Lebanon actually is already in the middle of this war.

How much more menacing military stuff is Biden going put over there?

US nuclear-powered submarine arrives in Middle East, US military says

A nuclear-powered Ohio-class submarine has arrived in the Middle East, US Central Command has said.

On Saturday, the US had said that a strike group including the flagship aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower as well as a guided missile cruiser and guided missile destroyers had also arrived in the region “as part of the increase in regional posture”.

The Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier arrived in the region last month.

Washington has said the presence of the aircraft carriers in the region is meant to deter any other actors from escalating the conflict.

Members of Biden administration ‘not comfortable’ with US president’s Israel policy

There’s enormous pressure [on Biden to rein in Israel] and it’s both visible and … invisible, in terms of it’s happening within the government where the public can’t see it.

Of course, we’re all seeing the public protests that are happening on a global scale, whether it is the walkouts, the staged demonstrations, the open letters that are being publicised in newspapers.

But what we are also hearing and [what] is being reported here in the United States is that there are members of the Biden administration that are not comfortable with the president’s Israel policy and are becoming increasingly vocal.

In fact, we know that the State Department is now offering listening sessions for some members of the [department] that feel that their personal beliefs do not align with the president’s policy and what is happening on the ground in Gaza.

And what we’re being told is that the president is not listening to the experts, but instead is aligning himself with a very tightly knit circle of advisers, who are essentially giving him advice on how to proceed.

White House says no sign Hezbollah ready to go in ‘full force’

Amid an increase of fire across the Israel-Lebanon border, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said there is no indication the Iran-backed group is ready “to go in full force.”

Still, he said the White House was concerned about attacks on Israeli by Hezbollah, who claimed to have hit 19 Israeli positions in a simultaneous attack today.

New US House Speaker says ‘Israel doesn’t need a ceasefire’

Republican lawmakers under new House Speaker Mike Johnson have introduced a bill that separates US aid for Israel from assistance for Ukraine. Previously, President Joe Biden’s proposal had combined the funds for a total request of $105bn.

Speaking at Capitol Hill, Johnson said Republicans have been “leading the charge to support our cherished friend”, referring to Israel.

“I’ve heard Democrats suggest there needs to be a ceasefire. Let us be clear,” he added. “There was a ceasefire, it was before October 7, and Hamas broke it and Israeli suffered unspeakable acts of evil,” added Johnson.

“Israel doesn’t need a ceasefire, needs its allies to cease with the politics and deliver support now, And that’s what we’re doing.”

oh cool, thanks dude

It seems like every other month or so the US proposes and alternative to BRI that will downfall China. There was Blue Dot, the Middle Eastern Corrider that probably isn't happening because of the war in Gaza, and now a railway in Central Africa. Westerners claim BRI is a huge failure when the conference for its shows otherwise. Portugal and Italy being told to leave by the US doesn't really indicate that it's a failure either, as hard as that is for Redditors to hear. Our president-elect even wants in on BRI projects while still trying to stay on good terms with Taiwan.

There's obviously a lot of work to be done in countering the US empire, but its downfall has been going on for a while. It's just a very slow one that will probably go the way of the British Empire, which was initially the worlds largest creditor before becoming the worlds largest debtor after WW1. The days of century-long downfalls like the Roman Empire don't really happen with the more modern ones.

As of now the groundwork is being laid out. The global south has options and it has a bigger impact than people realize.
