Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is still Palestine, though we will switch next week to a new country.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The weekly (biweekly?) update is here.

Links and Stuff

The bulletins site is down.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Add to the above list if you can.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

Jesus fuck - American cops.

"We don't have an official suspect in the murder right now but we already know it's not a hate crime." And I have to wonder if the untouched flag is "proof" to the cops it wasn't a hate crime.

Samantha Woll: Authorities conducting 'countless interviews' to determine a suspect and motive in Detroit synagogue leader's fatal stabbing | CNN

Authorities do not believe at this time that the crime was motivated by antisemitism, White said, adding police believe the assailant acted alone.

“We have a number of people that give us interest, we are just short of calling one of the people a suspect, but we are working to that end,” the chief said. “We are confident that we’re going to develop a suspect, we’re not there right now as of this press conference.”

Woll had a large Israeli flag in her apartment that was left untouched, a law enforcement source told CNN earlier.

Another deranged Zionist who wants to turn Gaza into Dresden: https://nitter.cz/Anna_AnninaEl/status/1717460569601475007

And the dude isn't a nobody but has a rather length Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moshe_Feiglin

Let's try to search for, I don't know, "Hitler":

Hitler was an unparalleled military genius. Nazism promoted Germany from a low to a fantastic physical and ideological status. The ragged, trashy youth body turned into a neat and orderly part of society and Germany received an exemplary regime, a proper justice system and public order. Hitler savored good music. He would paint. This was no bunch of thugs. They merely used thugs and homosexuals.

has the resistance said they'd accept a ceasefire, or would they kind of have no choice because of how disastrous a situation Gaza is in? I feel like an indefinite ceasefire, without an end to the occupation, would be bad long term - that's why I kind of have mixed feelings about the rallying cry for 'just' a ceasefire.

my position right now is that Israel isn't going to listen or be pressured to do anything anyway, so calling for a ceasefire is good because it makes it more difficult for countries to keep backing Israel in the way they are? idk

"I see death 20 times a day," says 90-year-old woman after fleeing her Gaza home

Souad Al-Alem was one of the roughly 10,000 people forced to flee the Palestinian town of al-Majdal. It was 1948, she was a young woman and Israel’s troops were approaching the community during the Arab-Israeli war in what is now part of the Israeli city of Ashkelon.

Now in her 90s and living in Gaza, Al-Alem has been forced to run again — one of the hundreds of thousands of civilians caught up in the war.

“I see death 20 times every day, in the sky and on earth. Even the force of every blast affects us psychologically. It feels like it is on top of our heads when it’s next to us or nearby,” Al-Alem told CNN. Just 10 miles north of the Gaza border, not much remains of al-Majdal. Once a buzzing market place known for textile manufacturing, it was reduced to rubble after the 1948/49 war.

All of its houses are long gone, replaced with modern Israeli buildings that are now part of Ashkelon. Only the old mosque remains standing. Nearby, an empty, overgrown field gives a hint of the size of the former town.

China's car exports are extremely hot this year. China's automotive industry is gunning for massive investment into automation. It's actually sort of crazy how much surplus capacity Chinese factories have.

People commenting on the reduction in Chinese exports of furniture and textiles are missing the bigger picture: China's economy is moving upwards in the value chain and it's requiring fewer workers to do it. That's both an advantage (because of increased efficiency) and a disadvantage (because the profits of that increased efficiency might not be coming back to the country). China has a uniquely strong government position to address this, but it'll still be interesting to see if the Chinese government can balance this massive growth in exports with the increasing power of private industry.

My anti-Zionist jewish friend sent me this tumblr post from another anti-Zionist jew talking about the "how to be Anti-Zionist without being antisemetic" subject, and told me its the first one of those posts that she's largely agreed with.

My friend asks that y'all not leave comments or anything please :)

I think its interesting that the post says that the "they can just go back, dual citizenship" rhetoric that Ive seen people here using is a problem because it doesnt reflect reality.

Person seems to be pretty comited to ending aparthied so I dont think they're coming at this in bad faith. And so I think these are good points to keep in mind.

14 UNRWA staff members killed in past 24 hours

In a fresh update, the UN’s refugee agency says that 14 additional staff members have been killed in Gaza during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of staff killed in the conflict to 53.

jesus christ. you have to wonder if they're punishing UN workers at this point because of Guterres' mild condemnation of Israel. or if the bombing is just that indiscriminate?

Emphasis mine. Fucking Israel.

Without electricity, British-Palestinian surgeon warns hospital will turn into "a mass grave"

A British-Palestinian surgeon who traveled to Gaza to help in hospitals has warned that without electricity, the hospital he is in “will just be a mass grave.”

Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sittah said that without electricity “there’s nothing to do for these wounded" who are at Al-Shifa Hospital where he is working.

“The system is disintegrating and without a ceasefire and a humanitarian corridor — not token 14, 15, 20 trucks for two and a quarter million people, but a real humanitarian corridor that allows the evacuation of these wounded and allows humanitarian aid to come in and medical teams to come in — without that, there’s going to be an even larger catastrophe that the one that already exists here,” Abu-Sittah told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Monday.

Abu-Sittah said the hospital has run out of burns dressings, with more than 100 patients in the hospital with burns covering more than 40% of their bodies.

There are more than 150 patients on ventilators with critical injuries in the hospital, he said, adding that they had also run out of “external fixators — the pins and rods that are required for orthopedic surgery.”

Abu-Sittah told CNN that a number of wounded and inpatients from the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital have been brought to Al-Shifa Hospital.

He said electricity is starting to cut out and there is not sufficient water pressure to run the sterilization machine that's needed for surgical instruments.

“Most importantly we’ve run out of space. The hospital that had a bed capacity between 550 and 700 beds now has 1,700 patients in mattresses in the corridors, on the floors of the emergency departments. The situation is dire, and we are just at the very end of the system as it slowly starts to crumble," he said.

The surgeon described treating a 16-year-old boy who “had burns to his face, his arms and his legs.” He said the boy told him how “he had dinner with his parents and his dad, who was sitting next to him, was killed and his mom suffocated in the fire that led to the burns that he had.”

“We have now a term in Shifa hospital called ‘wounded child with no surviving family’ to designate over 50 kids who have been pulled out of the rubble on their own and have sustained injuries and are being treated in the hospital,” Abu-Sittah said.

“For a system that had a total bed capacity of 2,500 beds before the war started, we are just waiting for the electricity to run out, the fuel, and then that will be the death… of the health system," he added.

I was just reading a little bit about white phosphorus. Sounds way worse than say mustard gas. Just one more hypocrisy to add onto the pile that someone like Assad deserves to get bombed for (being accused of) having mustard gas, yet Israel and the US can use white phosphorus with impunity and that’s a-ok.

Acting Prime Minster Richard Marles announced earlier that the country would send a "significant number" of ADF troops and two RAAF aircraft to the Middle East.

Unusually, for what he labelled "operational and security reasons", the acting prime minister would not confirm where the troops would be stationed, or their number.

"They will join an existing aircraft which is in the Middle East, so that takes the total to three and with them will be a contingent of Australian personnel which is a pretty significant contingent of personnel," he said.

"australia is a middle power with global interests"

the date is 10/26/23, we are hearing about another 1/10th of a 9/11 occurring in Maine. There have been 30 or so 9/11's since 10/7/23 in Israel alone. Over 100 9/11's since this past 9/11. Even more if you were to count Palestinians. When will the 9/11's themselves wake up to their own 9/11? Every moment has become a worse tragedy since the last 9/11 and every 9/12 before me looks to become another 9/11 stretching into the abyss. Infinite, recursive 9/11. An inescapable cataclysm in which we are all embodied in the large, jet-fuel-drenched towers, suffocating amongst the melted steel beams. An infinite number of passenger jets are crashing into an endless expanse of financial headquarters. I am born each day at 8:46 AM. The world is watching. I die each morning at 10:28 AM as the North Tower collapse before me. The world grieves for me, but I only crave more blood. I open my eyes and I am born again. The date is still 9/11 liberty-weeping

Darkest Speaker election timeline:

  • No speaker is elected for months
  • Government shuts down
  • Biden gets Congress to agree that military spending is national security and that they can vote on it without a speaker
  • This becomes the norm and any non military spending is forever halted because there is never another Speaker
  • All new laws are exclusively Executive Orders

Rybar analysis on the prisoners situation.

🇮🇱🇮🇷 🇵🇸 The head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, while in New York, made an important statement that could change the situation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

▪️ Palestinian factions have announced their readiness to release non-military hostages to Iran.

▪️ In return, Hamas declares its willingness to negotiate through the mediation of Qatar and Turkey and demands the release of six thousand Palestinian hostages from Israeli prisons.

▪️ The Palestinians, who were once seen as terrorists by the international community, are now showing their willingness to negotiate and make a gesture of goodwill.

▪️ Russia and China have gained points by advocating for the release of hostages during the negotiations. Iran, Qatar, and Turkey are also involved in this process.

🔻The Israelis are now finding it extremely inconvenient to sell the narrative that the Palestinians are terrorists, especially since the population seems to have forgotten the events of October 7-8 amidst the extensive bombing of the Gaza Strip.

It is becoming more difficult to dismiss the need to negotiate with Hamas, as public opinion is shifting towards the belief that it is possible to engage with the Palestinians diplomatically.

In the course of the 19-day conflict, the role of the "aggressor" has shifted from the Arabs to the Israelis. While the former are striving for negotiations, the latter's behavior is becoming increasingly inappropriate.

From Gaza now: Mosques are the only means of communication through speakers. "We have no communication with the outside world. They are using their military might to harm us. We have no power but the power of God, no one but God. Please, pray for us."

I've never heard anything coming out of a minaret speaker but the call to prayer. In Gaza, they are [sending] an SOS to a silent world.

what's with Israelis pronouncing it KHHHHHamas? that's not how you say it in Arabic and the normal h sound seems to exist in Hebrew? even Ben Shapiro says it that way and he's American, does that make it sound more evil or something?
