Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is still Palestine, though we will switch next week to a new country.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The weekly (biweekly?) update is here.

Links and Stuff

The bulletins site is down.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Add to the above list if you can.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

So uhh has the water and electricity been switched back on yet? How is Palestine making it without either?

I was looking for a Tony Benn quote and stumbled on this classic interview with him during the 2009 Gaza Massacre. The BBC had refused to broadcast details of charities supporting people in Gaza, so he went full belligerent pensioner mode to get it on air. The way he runs rings around her while defending Hamas is chefs-kiss. Benn might have been a DemSucc, but it really shows flattened-bernie up as the fucking melt he is here

Edit: fuck, I found what I was looking for - “there’s no moral difference between a stealth bomber and a suicide bomber”. I forgot it was in the context of him calling John Bolton a war criminal and telling him that America is a declining empire. sicko-yes It’s also quite telling to hear the Syrian Ambassador to the UK saying “errr, guys, the border with Syria, terrorists guys, guys?”

🔴 Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine:

Gaza defends and fights with its flesh and blood, and the flag will not fall.

The enemy's decision to cut off all communications and internet services to the Gaza Strip, following its threats of committing more genocidal crimes and escalating brutal bombing, is an attempt by the enemy to silence the voice of Gaza, to hide images of its crimes and defeats, and to use shock to spread fear among the steadfast residents of Gaza.

What the Popular Front fears and warns against are the ongoing brutal crimes by the enemy's army and air force against defenseless women, elderly, and children, especially given the enemy's escalation of its aerial, naval, and ground bombardment.

Any enemy ground incursion attempts, no matter their form or size, will only be met with increased resistance, and the enemy will face surprises prepared by our people's resistance that they are unaware of. Our people should be confident of the readiness and capability of the resistance.

The Front warns against exploiting the communication blackout in Gaza to spread rumors and circulate the enemy's lies, urging our people and Palestinian journalists to make their best efforts to convey the truth to the masses using any available means.

The Front calls on Palestinian companies and entities to urgently find solutions that enable the residents of Gaza to access communications, warning against any negligence in this regard, especially since these communications are essential for residents to access emergency and ambulance services.

The Front also calls for an escalation of Arab popular and official efforts to stop the aggression, emphasizing the necessity of working on bringing aid, volunteers, and international delegations to the Strip to relieve its people and wounded, and to reveal the scale of the zionist crimes committed in the Strip.

Yoan Tuval : US official confirms to me that key reason for IDF ground invasion delay is US request to complete preps for broader conflict.

Preps incl deployment of THAAD and Patriot air defense systems in Gulf (poss also Jordan + northern Iraq) and arrival of 2000k marines

I need a better source for this, cause if it's true that's a real dumb reason to delay, cause if Israel goes in the US is gonna need more than 2000 crayon eating marines to contain the inevitable explosion all over the Arab world

It's one thing to watch babies being pulled from rubble, the part of the brain that deals with cope can almost convince you you're looking at the aftermath of a earthquake or a natural disaster

But watching some racist conscript blast and abuse Palestinian children on live TV is another story

US quietly expands secret base in Israel: Report

The US has been quietly moving ahead with expanding a secret base it maintains in Israel’s Negev desert, just 32km (20 miles) from Gaza, according to a report by The Intercept.

Code-named “Site 512,” the construction at the radar facility atop Mt. Har Qeren will include what US government records describe as a “life support facility”, or barracks-like structures for staff.

The Intercept said on Friday the $35.8m facility, which was not publicly announced or previously reported, was obliquely referenced in an August 2 contract announcement by the Pentagon.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on residents of the country to protest because of the start of the Israeli operation. - Twitter

Military spokesman in Egypt: Our air forces are intensifying the work of securing our entire airspace

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry has warned that Israel's ground operation in the Gaza Strip will result in a "humanitarian disaster of epic proportions for years to come."

Leaders asking their populations to protest for X or Y issue is always so fucking hilarious to me. Like, bro, you have the control of the state and the military.

Unless he's talking about Israel when he says "the country", in which case that's even more stupid

watching Palestinians whose Twitter accounts I have followed for years - both regular citizens and journalists - go from posts of desperation about the current hell in Gaza to silence and then the announcement of their deaths is a modern horror I don't really have the words for

Nitter

Edit

Aljazeera' s brave veteran journalist Wael Dahdouh's wife, son and daughter were killed in an Israeli airstrike which targeted a shelter house they had fled to. Wael received the news while on air covering the nonstop Israeli strikes on Gaza!

Nitter

There are two raw video clips at the link.

Chris Hayes "interviewed" a Norwegian doctor about the dire situation involving hospitals in Gaza. I didn't time the segment and I was listening to it the background. I have no idea how long it was. 5 minutes? Hayes hardly asked any questions. At the end of the "interview" - he didn't miss a step he thanked the doctor for his time and quickly moved on to the next segment.

TV news often goes hours speaking elliptically about the fucking "humanitarian crisis" in Gaza in passive constructions. When they they finally sort of cover the horror - Hayes's segment is typical. I think I'm beyond angry to something like nausea. In private I hope he at least acknowledges that he's a soulless corporate husk that's addicted to his sweet, sweet MSNBC compensation package so he doesn't rock the boat. But I wonder if he even does that.

The next segment was about the hostages and I changed the channel before the flood of questions started.

Getting next to no info on Gaza tonight. Not sure if an operation is happening or not.

Tonnes happening in the west bank though. It's so scattered it's hard to make much sense of it however.

🔴Kan Hebrew Channel:

Israel informed the mediators that it is ready to consider a large-scale prisoner deal with the Gaza Strip, leading to the release of a large number of israelis, this is what a political official familiar with the ongoing talks with Qatar, Egypt and other mediators told the channel.

According to reports in various media outlets, Hamas is demanding the transfer of fuel to Gaza, the release of Palestinian prisoners, and a ceasefire - and the political official replied: “Things are approaching the moment of maturity, and we will soon know where they are headed.”

Potential direction of current talks might be crucial.

Anyone think releasing the hostages is a stalling tactic? Obviously Israel doesn’t give a shit but I could see the strategy being to slowly and gradually release them over the next month in the hopes that Israel will delay the ground invasion until they’re all out.
