Surprised nobody has mentioned the monolith that is Funny Games. I don't think I've ever seen a twist done as well as the remote scene.

the innocents 1961
it's a very well done ghost story about a governess who notices ghosts attempting to effectively groom children in her care or does she
the film does a very good job of maintaining a suspenseful and ambiguous atmosphere with good reasons presented both to believe the ghosts are real and that they aren't. Plus it's just plain creepy
also it has a very accomplished cast and the cinematography was innovative
