Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

The Governments of Spain and Ireland both officially protested against the decision by the European Union to block and suspend all financial aid funding to Palestine. Belgium was also not too happy about it but I can't find confirmation that they protested it in an official capacity.

The fetishization of freedom of speech has destroyed the Western ability to think critically.

The assumption is that the "accurate" views will trickle down and thus there's no need for you to think critically on your own.

Even when they’re ostensibly pro-Palestine, western commentators can’t help but fall into the same trop a when talking about Hamas. Alice Trashfuture out of nowhere said “Hamas is going to go into these settlements and kill incriminately and the Israeli right get to say we’re going to bulldoze Gaza into the sea, like they always have been”. On the surface indicting Israel, but playing into the fucking both-sides narrative. Exhausting

From an article that was linked here earlier

War becomes a test of political economy, it is the great revealer. The GDP of Russia and Belarus represents 3.3% of Western GDP (the US, Anglosphere, Europe, Japan, South Korea), practically nothing. One can ask oneself how this insignificant GDP can cope and continue to produce missiles. The reason is that GDP is a fictional measure of production. If we take away from the American GDP half of its overbilled health spending, then the "wealth produced" by the activity of its lawyers, by the most filled prisons in the world, then by an entire economy of ill-defined services, including the "production" of its 15 to 20 thousand economists with an average salary of 120,000 dollars, we realize that an important part of this GDP is water vapor. War brings us back to the real economy, it allows us to understand what the real wealth of nations is, the capacity for production, and therefore the capacity for war.

US reportedly allows Israel to confront any threat anywhere

According to the report, the US gave Israel the "green light to confront any threat on any front and in any geography." [...] The United States has allowed Israel to attack any target anywhere if it determines it poses a threat, Al-Arabiya reported on Friday, citing Israeli sources.

The Flood from Gaza - Israel's elites and public have been dealt the biggest blow to their morale in 50 years.

Now we know why Mohammad Deif, the leader of Hamas' military wing in the Gaza Strip, disappeared from public view after the 'Sword of Jerusalem' campaign nearly two years ago. He was making plans and preparations for a counterstrike against Israel. On Saturday, he emerged, alongside Hamas spokesman 'Abu-Obaida,' to announce it.

They declared the start of 'Operation al-Aqsa Flood,' describing it as a battle to end the longest occupation on the planet. Thousands of rockets were launched within a matter of minutes, confounding Israel's much-hyped air defense systems, while Palestinian resistance fighters broke out of the besieged territory to storm Israeli settlements in the Gaza Envelope.

The images of the operation posted on social media were astonishing: Merkava tanks on fire; their Israeli occupation soldiers being dragged out and pleading for mercy; Israeli settlers fleeing in panic, their appeals for help going unheeded. At this writing, more than 100 Israelis (now well over 700) had been reported killed, thousands injured, and scores captured to be used as bargaining chips for the release of Palestinian prisoners held by Tel Aviv.

The impact on the morale of Israel's elites and public has been enormous. The country's political, security, and military establishments have been dealt their biggest blow in 50 years, since the October 1973 war. When an army ranked as the world's fourth most powerful cannot prevent or react to the targeting of supposedly secure settlers in Israel 'proper,' that is a sign of serious decline.

Regardless of how events unfold in the days and weeks to come, the resistance has achieved a huge victory. This is a long war. Israel may unleash death and destruction on a gigantic scale, but it will not emerge unscathed itself. And if it escalates into a regional war on multiple fronts, the writing will be clearly on the wall.

The thought, planning, and management that went into this operation match anything taught at the world's top military academies. When videos of fighters training for it were posted on social media, they were ridiculed by Israel and its ‘normalized’ Arab allies. So much for all those Sandhurst and West Point graduates. Mohammad Deif never claimed any military title, but he deserves the rank of 'general' far more than any of the heavily medalled and overweight commanders of Arab armies who do little more than stage parades and earn corrupt commissions on arms deals.

Remember the date — 7 October. It may mark a historic turning point in the Arab world, from a period of submission, surrender, normalization, and delusions about the enemy as protector, to one of dignity and liberation: in this case, the total liberation of Palestine.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared a state of war, threatened a devastating response, and called up his army's reservists. But what can he do that he has not already done? Kill hundreds more innocent civilians in Gaza? It would not be the first time. But this time, it could trigger a devastating reaction that reaches as far as Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Jerusalem.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad joined Hamas in this battle, as did all the armed resistance wings of the major Palestinian factions. The resistance brigades in the West Bank - in Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarem, and potentially Hebron - have been inspired and, with their solid base of popular support, have begun to join the fight. And it cannot be ruled out that components of the axis of resistance in Lebanon and Syria, and even Yemen and Iraq, will do so too in the foreseeable future, if not sooner.

"America Worshippers" and "NATO leftists" are two terms that really get Western "leftists" and their EU lapdogs mad. Got a shit ton of angry DM's saying that tell me how not angry they are in the form of 8-10 paragraph messages. One of them even threatened to come to where I live. I told them it was cool as long as they were okay with my rifle in their face.

Another journalist friend in Gaza says most Palestinians don’t want to flee because they don’t want a repeat of 1948 Nakba, they would rather die in their homes. All displaced people have nowhere to go but into the streets, waiting to be killed

In Palestine we do not propose even to go through the form of consulting the wishes of the present inhabitants of the country… The four Great Powers are committed to Zionism. And Zionism, be it right or wrong, good or bad, is rooted in age-long traditions, in present needs, in future hopes, of far profounder import than the desires and prejudices of the 700,000 Arabs who now inhabit this ancient land.

  • Lord Arthur Balfour, 1919

Been reading about the British involvement in setting up the current situation… jfc they were evil. They deserve at least as much blame as the US. They knew full well what they were doing and the mess they were creating and did not care.

Fun fact about Lord Balfour… his government authored the 1905 Aliens Act, which was intended primarily to keep out Jews escaping pogroms in Russia at the time. Say, you don’t suppose this fellow didn’t have some deep love of the Jewish people, and instead had more nefarious reasons for supporting Zionism (like getting more Jews out of the UK)??? 🤔🤔🤔

Got banned from a bunch of reddits, advocating for genocide and the death of Arabs is ok. Telling those advocates that they should kill themselves or that I will do it for them is however uncivil and a ban-able offense.

Strap me to a missile and fire me at the US.

I have a heart-felt lathe wish. Biden is about to give a speech about Israel. Lathe operators - please have him drop dead of old age in the middle of it. Thank you. Inshallah.

Edit 1

He hasn't started his speech yet. Right now it's 5:40 PM GMT.

Holy fuck. I haven't sat down and watched a Biden speech in - I dunno - at least six months. He looks like shit. He lookks and sounds like he's 120 years old.

Ground operation in Gaza delayed several days due to weather - New York Times

Israel's ground operation in the Gaza Strip was supposed to begin this weekend, but it was postponed "by several days" due to cloudy weather that would make it difficult for Israeli pilots and drone operators to support ground forces from the air, the NYT reported, citing the IDF.

Israel tells UN to evacuate the northern Gaza Strip within 24 hours

Today, just before midnight local time, team leaders of the UN Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the Department of Safety and Security in Gaza were informed by their liaison officers in the Israeli military that the entire population of Gaza north of Wadi Gaza should relocate to southern Gaza within the next 24 hours," Dujarric told Axios.

"This amounts to approximately 1.1 million people. The same order applied to all UN staff and those sheltered in UN facilities – including schools, health centers and clinics," Dujarric said.

The United Nations considers it impossible for such a movement to take place without devastating humanitarian consequences," Dujarric added. "The United Nations strongly appeals for any such order, if confirmed, to be rescinded avoiding what could transform what is already a tragedy into a calamitous situation."

This “40 beheaded babies” lie is really sick and twisted.

And now we have Biden saying

I never thought that I would see and have confirmed pictures of terrorists beheading children

even though he saw no such pictures. He just gave so much “credibility” to this horrid disgusting lie.

Wall Street Journal quoting an Iranian official: If Iran properly is attacked, it will send its fighters from Syria to attack Israel

“Iran possesses the largest and most diverse missile arsenal in the Middle East with thousands of ballistic and cruise missiles, some capable of striking as far as Israel and southeast Europe.

For the past decade, Iran has invested significantly to improve these weapons’ precision and lethality. Such developments have made Iran’s missile forces a potent tool for Iranian power projection and a credible threat to U.S. and partner military forces in the region.

Iran is also a major hub for weapons proliferation, supplying partner/proxy groups such as Hezbollah and Syria’s al-Assad regime with a steady supply of missiles and rockets, as well as local production capability.”

Iran not only has the capability to strategically bombard Israel proper in response to aggression thanks to deep stocks of munitions, its missile force is also sophisticated to the point it could cripple the U.S. CENTCOM assets in the wider region.

This means not only destroying U.S. bases in places like Iraq or Bahrain, but also closing the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to oil shipping. This would likely collapse the Western economies, due to their dependence on foreign oil.

It’s easy to imagine the collapse in U.S. prestige and power projection capabilities that would follow such a conflict, particularly if Iran is able to sink American carriers, as they have the capacity to do.

Al-Jazeera quoting a Israeli Radio, citing a senior official source: The number of Israeli casualties is unfathomable and much greater than what was announced.

I've discovered a new way to argue with "both sides" reddit-logo users who are clearly lying about "condemning Israeli violence against civilians."

https://redditcommentsearch.com/

Search their comment history for comments condemning Israeli violence not in the context of them trying to "both sides" the issue when commenting about Palestinian violence so as to appear "unbiased". Then watch them get really mad when you ask them to provide a comment as an example because you can't seem to find one.

One funny wrinkle to recent events in Isreal that I haven't seen mentionied much is that back at the G20 meeting the India-Middle-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), meant to counter China's BRI, was inaugurated. The idea being to facilitate the constructing of things like rail networks and hydrogen pipelines. This initiative finds its origins in the I2U2 group, consisting of India, Isreal, UAE and the US. Notably, Israel proposed the idea of increased interconnectivity through rail.

The inevitable reliance on risk-averse private companies makes the financing of such projects hard for the West under normal circumstances. But with Isreal's genocidal policies flaring up tensions in the whole region, it seems dead in the water.

This whole thing is such a massive strategic failure for the US. They wanted to pivot to East Asia, pull back from West Asia, improve relations in Africa, focus on containing China. But instead they are overextending themselves with Ukraine and Isreal. Their focus completely opposite of where they wanted it it be.
