Been a DeX aficionado for years... got the DeX Pad and a collection of dongles, adaptors, and accessories to feed my escalating ambitions. The prospect of long texts or emails while on the road or on vacation and my strange fixation on digital preparedness to present, correspond, or do work on the fly had me hoarding dongles/HDMIs/portable keyboards.
With an unlimited budget, I was imagining portable monitors, Nexdocks/Lapdock, better keyboards, flatter mice and all manner of tech goodies.
However, after discovering DeX on laptop, whether wired or wirelessly, it seems the search is over. An actual Windows machine offers more than any Lapdock device could and lets you multitask much more effectively (if such a thing is possible).
Granted, if you don't currently own a decent laptop or have an 8th gen or later i3/5/7/9 machine, are young and broke maybe there's something in a lap shell setup or the mobile monitor and all that but I was able to get a used HP Spectre for $350 USD and don't see any reason to continue on the search for the DeX peripheral holy grail search anymore.
Just my two cents, folks.
Am I missing anything, though?
