I've been in situations where the vet in question was annoyed by the saying telling me "serving is a duty that doesn't need to be thanked for". But then there's others who get annoyed if you don't as if it's their natural right for enlisting.

I don't want to single a person out if they obviously don't want to be. But I don't want to ignore what a vet has done either for the country.
