Original Title: I speak Spanish as a second language almost fluently (I am white and I am not of any Latin/hispanic descent) is it rude to speak to people in Spanish in the US (say in a grocery store or gym) when I am confident they speak it?

I ask because I didn’t know if it would come across as rude in the sense that they could interpret it as I don’t think they speak English or don’t speak English well enough.
