Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

My first read: "everywhere" as in happy about it. Hell yeah!

Reading the comments: "everywhere" as in uncomfortable about being surrounded. So fragile about people living their lives.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 hours ago

I believe it can be turned into something optimistic, i imagine a tweet with a crowd of people enjoying their lives with the caption "everywhere."

It's all about how we interpret these things.

Why are these guys so obssesed with pride flags.

Motherfucker you went voluntarialy to a progressive pride conference/event of some sort and then act shocked when the progressive place has progressive related flags.

I wonder how these fuckers would react If I post something like this with an US flag

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 hours ago

"everywhere" with an american flag.

50% of the comments are "damn right, best military, US #1!!!" other 50% is "Unfortunately."

Never believe that [fascists] are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

Sartre with the fire explanation for this behavior.

Using "mtf" the way you are is wildly confusing in this context.

Male-to-female-ed at a pride conference thingy‽ They were right all along!

(Was it a typo or does mtf have another meaning?)

Typo, I tried to say the short term of motherfucker XD

Why are these guys so obssesed with pride flags.

They're jealous.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 14 hours ago

love is everywhere ❤️

I want to put a flagpole in my front yard so I can hang the US Flag with the pride flag beneath it.

My wife doesn't want me to.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I would put the pride flag above the US one personally.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 12 hours ago (3 children)

While the rules governing the display of the flag don't actually have the force of law, due to the constitutionality protected right to freedom of speech, it is still considered improper to fly any flag above the national flag.

Given my intent is to show that the US flag is all of ours and can't be taken away from minorities, immigrants, trans, etc., it wouldn't be appropriate to do so in a way that suggests disrespect for the US flag.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 hours ago

to be fair 🏳️‍⚧️ is my national flag

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (2 children)

The queer community is international and for everyone queer.

The US' one is exclusionary to Americans only, and increasingly appropriated by far-right nuts.

I say nationalism belongs right in the bin where it ought have been many centuries ago.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 hours ago

Nationalism does nothing but give power to the state, it is inherently an archist mindset, these motherfuckers were never revolutionaries, they're nothing more than filthy loyalist collaborators, and nothing changes that until they stop standing for a flag that doesn't care about them.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not willing to let the far-right nuts keep it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 hours ago

Fair point too.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

that suggests disrespect for the US flag

... yes

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 hours ago

Except, that's not the argument I'm trying to make.

It's my flag too, and I'm not going to let them take it away from me. I'm not going to let the assholes define what it stands for.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

huh?...

confus bout post n text...

[–] [email protected] 41 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

This guy is acting like he's in a zombie apocalypse, stating "everywhere." as if he were to describe a swarm of mosquitoes, depicting something as simple as a flag to a disease.

The previous context to this photo, is that this guy "infiltrated" a confrence of some sorts, and posted tweets "exposting the woke leftist agenda."

So it's safe to say this guy is a laughing stock, especially with this iconic tweet.
