Authoritarianism increases the odds of potential invasions.
I was thinking about that the other day. What has to happen for another entity to invade and put a stop to this? Who’s most likely to do so…and win? Will we be happy with whomever is installed as leader?
Literally nobody. Even an alliance of Russia+China+EU+help from Canada and South America would lose. The US is geographically impossible to invade, and this can only change if the US breaks apart.
As the federal government gets fucked and our influence on the world stage plummets, it's in the best interest of every empire on earth to stoke regional division in the long run. It won't be hard to convince the future rulers; all you need is to promise oligarchs and warlords a kingdom of their own to run so long as they dismantle the federal government. This will be an absolutely awful experience and things will not settle down or become less violent.
The US military will take a while to deconstruct and I'm not sure how long it will take, but it won't happen under Trump's rule. I have no doubts that he can maintain control until he dies, so we better count ourselves lucky that he's already so old. If he had more than a decade left on the clock, we'd be even more fucked than we are now.
Honestly, I'll take anything. I fucking hate this country, and I fucking hate its culture. If China or the EU or whoever wants to come invade our cities and erase our history, I'd gladly help them.
If you aren't a fan of authoritarianism, you may want to read up on what living in China is like ..or Tibet, Urghurs, Taiwan...EU and China are generally pretty far apart in position and trajectory though some places in Europe definitely asking the question in the last 10 years how Europe would feel about fascist ascendency.
