As user stated, its a stuffed shark that's super popular. It's also 4 feet long so it fills the niche of a large stuffed animal, but not like rediculously big, or uber expensive (a 100 inch stuffed animal for $30usd??). IDK about the trans community tho, glad they like it too lol.
Just curious cuz it sorta blew up and now I see it everywhere. Eh. It's a dorky looking shark I can see why.

What is with the shark plush? I like shark, but why so common?
It's one of the ikea plushies. Apparently it is used by trans people as somewhat of an identifying symbol (has the trans flag colors on it) and people post pictures of themselves with this plush when they come out as trans.
Disclaimer: this is my understanding as a cis het man, so take this with a boatload of salt.
The only question I would for that explination is why a shark plush?
Because it is affordable, available all around the world and has the colors of the trans flag on it (blue back, white bottom and pink mouth).
From another comment I made, it's an affordable medium-large plush with a silly derpy face.
People began uploading photos of it doing "human" things so naturally I got one too. Kind of like cat videos. I guess
