It's too bad there's not going to be a prize when bluesky enshittifies, other than being able to say "I told you so"

Hedge your bets. You're already here on Lemmy so in a way you're kind of already doing that although this I would consider it a different type of social media. You're free to create a Mastodon account too and try other platforms as well.
With that said I do believe that Bluesky is likely to at-least remain the lesser of evils when compared with Twitter. I think Bluesky is a great replacement for Twitter because the barrier to entry is about equal. Mastodon is a little more technical.
Also, on Bluesky the majority of users aren't bots, so there is that.
This won’t last.
ppls are just approaching bsky with a twitter mindset by waiting for it to tell you want to do and see instead of realising there's no algorithm boosting your replies and posts so you actually have to go out and build your following (like in the early days of social media).
I wanted to get into Mastodon, but I can see why it didn't take off as much compared to Bluesky. It didn't prepopulate the home feed on first sign up (it was empty), and only gives a small selection of people to follow and you only see their posts. Bluesky does a similar thing, but the home feed uses suggestions based on the people you initially follow to populate the home feed with others as well.
I think mass adoption would be easier for Mastodon to achieve with that kind of algorithmically generated prepopulation.
Also obligatory Fuck X.
blueskys algorithm is so funny
I followed one friend when I first joined and my entire feed was suddenly furries cos my friend liked those posts xD
mastodon/the fediverse could learn a lot in taking the ability or users to create custom feeds, labellers, and moderation services like on bsky, honestly.
I think instead they should suggest some hashtags. I.e. Topics the person is interested in. And the rest could work just as it is now. You would immediately have your home feed populated without doom scrolling topics you don't care about. But really it's more on the app developers to implement.
What's kinda funny, this is exactly why I like Mastodon. I'm only seeing what I want.
But I spent a bit of time everyday checking out people that the people I followed had reposted and various recommdation lists. Then discovered hashtags, now I collect those. #bloomscrolling and #caturday amongst the first to freshen up the feed.
It took a few minutes a day and it was kind of fun finding communities and people.
I'd rather Bluesky properly federate so I could have Mark Hamill and a few others in my Mastodon feed without having to check Bluesky too.
Mastodon is like going to the local pub, I see my people. Bluesky is like going to Summerfest or your insert favorite huge music fest with tons of famous bands and tiny side stages and super crowded and it's easy to lose your friends.
But I like shitposts!? Thats like half the reason I'm on social media.
This didn't need an "experiment" to see.
posts article titled "Donald Trump is a Nazi: part 1 of 10" on both bsky and twitter.
1200 clicks on bsky
3 clicks on twitter
concludes that twitter users don't read as much as bsky users.
This is a joke, but seriously, social media experiments are rarely useful. Lotta confounders, and inconsistent documentation.
implying there aren't mastodon instances run by neo-nazis or pedophiles is disengenuous
Oh wow. Can't be safe to be riding around in such a high horse.
