Which maps can you recommend / do you use?

I'm looking for a map that has english names all over the world. Moreover a more beautiful world map would be awesome.

TBH, I also prefer the colours of mapbox or maptiles over OSMAnd. If u don't need something so feature rich, I like how organic map looks. Also, try the other map styles in osmand, maybe you will like one of them.

I've got my own style, thanks!

Offline maps is just too slow on my pixel 9 for general browsing

I really want to like OsmAnd but it’s so laggy and slow that it’s almost painful to use… Meanwhile Organic Maps runs beautifully but is on the opposite side of the spectrum, as in you can’t configure anything.

I never found osmand laggy. I use both but idk. My device is very cheap too.

Define "beautiful"

Thx for asking. Maps from Maptiles or Mapbox for example

@enemenemu
Easiest way to do that is to go in the left panel, select "setup the map" and at the bottom you can select the language used

Thanks! That's for the offline map. The offline map is too slow for me on my phone for general usage.

To me, the offline map is only great for hiking or navigation

Have you considered the Organic Maps app?

OSMand can be configured to do a lot of cool things and I use it a lot. But honestly if you don't need all the bells and whistles OrganicMaps is a lot smoother to use by comparison

It is, you're right. But osmand is great for hiking and I don't really want to add an app just for browsing the map when osmand could do it

Okay so you want to use the online maps instead?

If that is the question I use Microsoft Earth as an underlay with the offline map. The slider can change the transparency as needed. It looks like this

This setup relies on the offline map data which is a downside for you. But I think you can do something similar with an online map tile overlay and sat underlay and not show offline data

Edit: I played around and you can make that work with online maps too. I used Microsoft Earth as an underlay and Cycle OSM as the primary map. This is what it looks like and the settings

What exactly do you mean by "which maps"? Do you want a different style, different labels, higher quality data? The question as asked isn't very specific.

You can add any map tiles you want with the online map extension
