Blows my mind that "the richest country on earth" doesn't do this by default and also that it's necessary in the first place.

So many other things that the richest country on Earth should be doing by default. This one is actually lower on the list compared to things like national healthcare and free college education.

Free college education isn’t worth much if the people who would benefit most from it are malnourished during their early learning years. It’s hard to come back from that academically.

Still: it's a start. Instead of a constant barrage of policies meant to punch down on one set of marginalized groups or another...it's refreshing to see policies mean to advance our progress.

Lock up non-violent drug users....feed them 3 meals a day...we need more prisoners....o school kids need food? Naa sorry don't have the money for those people.... don't worry though they'll get hooked on prescription meds and be in the system soon enough...
