Yes! I like the platform and the philosophy behind it, the only thing missing nis more users!

Fuck reddit. Fuck corporations. Lemmy has been fun.

I wish I could give you more than one upvote

It's a little up in the air for me at the moment. I just discovered that all of our upvotes and downvotes aren't private. It's not what I'm used to at Reddit.

I can see pros and cons to this, so it will be an interesting change for sure.

Yes. 99% of my reddit browsing was through an app. If it shuts down, my activity does too.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I think so! I have been enjoying it quite a bit so far, and I am hopeful that it will only get better.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Maybe. Probably will get downvotes but feeerarion needs to be very user friendly and it’s so far real confusing. I’m hopeful, but I also know servers and people’s time cost money.

Blender.org figured out how to build a business case for open source and it’s working very well. I hope the fediverse can figure it out too.

I like the comparisons to email, how I could run my own server, but even today I jsut rely on Google for personal and work. Why? It just works and it’s very easy to use. And cost is affordable for the work side.

What’s going on here is interesting though! ActivityPub is super cool so I want to stay here to learn and keep a pulse on it.

Yes. I never used Reddit that much. About a post per week or so. But I feel much more "at home" on lemmy so actually I already use lemmy more than I ever used Reddit.

Definitely.

I will use it but not as my primary. I think Reddit still is where I want to be until the content here increases. I understand we have to create content here for that to happen though so I will continue to use in just to do my part.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I know I will..

That's the plan. I'm strongly invested in leaving Reddit for good.

I do have some concerns regarding the scalability of the Lemmy as a whole though. Seems like sync issues are a frequent problem.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I'm not going to Reddit for sure!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

[hey, first post on Lemmy 🥳]

If Mastodon & Lemmy remains are active as they are right now, then yes.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Yeah I'm going to stick around here. I finally deleted my Reddit account earlier today. I'll still use DuckDuckGo to search for specific things on there but that's it.

I'm platform agnostic and will use whatever works best, is cross compatible, ethical, and open source.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Yep. And I think things will improve a lot very soon.

Definitely yes, the decentralized aspect of it gives me a feeling of more control and more freedom than the corpo driven social media like reddit.

At least nothing here is owned by a single entity. No single point of failure.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Likely, yes. I'm not sure about longevity yet, but most of the subs I really enjoyed already have a presence here. No matter how it turns out, I really hope that lemmy becomes a viable alternative at least, to spark some healthy competition.

I won't religiously stay away from the old plattform though. There is still a lot of good answers for a lot of problems, though I already feel sticky when clicking on reddit links. The same way like when you have to buy something from amazon.

Yes. 13 year former reddit user. Haven't been on reddit for about two weeks.

Also, fyi, there will be a response bias that i suspect will favor those who think they will stay on lemmy in this poll.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Staying, liking it here so far. As others have mentioned, reddit does have a huge base of collective knowledge that I used frequently in the past - and I do miss/resent that.

Yes. Only thing I found really useful on Reddit was consolidated news. Nearly everything else was a time waster. I refuse to use their mobile app so I’m not going anywhere. I’ve been saving so much time not mindlessly scrolling on Reddit.

In 2018 I registered for an instance running diaspora*. At the time it felt early but federation was certainly the future. I deleted all socials except Reddit. Now with reddit doing its thing and the influx of new users I feel like federation is a better option. I think I'll delete my reddit account fairly soon. However I might not use lemmy or kbin often as it's also a good time to start easing of social media all together

I'm never going back. I like Lemmy. I hope reddit dies a sad death. If Lemmy didn't exist, I probably wouldn't have left reddit. I see much higher quality content here.
