I know this is about scissors but the amount of people who don't understand how to keep sharp things sharp drives me fuckin insane

I keep my kitchen knives and my edged tools sharp, but I don't actually know the process for sharpening scissors. Would you care to enlighten the unwashed masses?

I've only ever used store bought tools for scissors but if you can disassemble it you should be able to use a stone.

Though be careful cause you can fuck them up if you do it wrong

Apparently, you get a burr across the scissor blade and clean it up on the back

How do you keep sharp things sharp?

Proper storage, usage, and maintenance.

Knives should always be stored separately to prevent the blade coming into contact with anything that could dull it.

Use the correct knife for the job. You wouldn't use a box cutter to peel a potato so don't use your paring knife to cut paper or open boxes.

When sharpening always ensure you have the right angle for the knife. Different knives have different angles depending on what their made for. If you don't trust yourself to keep the angle manually there are several tools you can find to help.

I mainly referenced knives but this is true for most things that are meant to be sharp. Razors, axes, needles, chisels. If it's got a sharp edge and you want it to stay sharp for as long as possible you have to take care of it properly.

Lansky sharpening kit. It holds the whetstone at the correct angle for you, so you'll get close to a professional sharpening with 0 previous training or knowledge.

Now she’s going to use your good chisels to open paint cans.

Use them to cut your mattress tag for instant 5-star wanted level and helicopters circling your house.

I wear my Tuesday socks on Wednesday, I have breakfast cereal for lunch and didn't even pay for Winrar. We can't let them win

This would make more sense if it was haircutting scissors. Fabric scissors are not going to dull from cutting some wrapping paper.

You obviously have never had your mother find you cutting anything with her expensive fabric scissors.

Good dress making scissors are in the same price range as salon scissors.

Yeah I could see her getting mad just because your not supposed to use them, but once again wrapping paper ain't hurting fabric scissors. I actually prefer using the big fabric scissors with wrapping paper. Makes the job easy.

No it definitely damages the blades.

Fabric scissors need to be sharp so there's no tearing when cutting and paper is one of the most damaging things to the blades.

There's a reason you buy cheap scissors for everyday use while things like fabric or kitchen shears are more expensive because they're made for specific uses and are made better.

Yeah using fabric scissors on paper makes the cut better. That's the whole point of why they're more expensive. They're sharper. You don't need an edge that sharp to cut paper. But you need an edge that sharp to cut fabric

They did it to themselves. I hope Mama gets a sympathetic jury.
