Welsh National Opera is effectively proposing to put its orchestra on part-time contracts. This is the latest in a series of body blows to opera in Wales.

Mid Wales Opera (MWO) brought fully-staged performances to theatres around Wales for over 30 years. Last week it gave the final performance of what could be its last mainstage production ever, Verdi’s Macbeth, at Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon. Its Arts Council Wales grant has been cut in its entirety.

MWO will tour a small-stage production of Pagliacci in the autumn. But if new funding isn’t found, the company will fold.

Well, something like 47% of us voted not to, but yeah I feel you, it was a pretty fucking dumb decision.

Oh man somehow the fact that it was that close is even more annoying :(
