They were already fascists. The brony trend literally started on 4chan who all thought it would be funny to "ironically" watch this new My Little Pony show and then suddenly found out they liked it. 4chan banned all My Little Pony content when it totally took over the site and it forced it to develop a community elsewhere. This created the wider brony community.

Given the origin it really shouldn't be a surprise why this occurred.

4chan wasn't nearly as fascist back in 2010.

And they still have an MLP containment board.

True but it was still a site dedicated to slurs and bigotry as its core culture. The people that gravitated to that were always full of fascists.
