2 games is almost the worst thing they could do. With 1 game sure, there're fewer games and that sucks, but at least there's a very clear and unambiguous winner. With a full 3 games the winner is whoever can win at least 2 of them; again, it's clear. But this "aggregate" thing is really awkward.

It’s awkward but I was thinking today that they might be worried about a dead rubber and no turn out. With two it is at least “undecided”. But I hope that it expands to three shortly.
