keep in mind that for these people, communism = "anything I don't like", which for many includes anyone brown

I don't believe Ted Cruz is that lost in his own sauce. He's evil and bumbling, but I think he knows what communism is. Cruz may be an unholy assemblage of cockroaches in human form, but he knows who his masters are and what kind of words he has to say to placate the hogs.

He's not dumb, he's slime.
