Measles is an interesting dive. It can have a re-write effect on the immune system such that other established immunities get wiped after a measles infection.
As such, it’s best to avoid.
Which makes it even worse to get as an adult. Think about all the disease history wiped. It’s a case of history repeating itself but much more dangerously.
Think of those of us with chronic illnesses who have to wipe take drugs that deplete plasma B cells and thus wipe your immune memory monthly. Especially since COVID, it’s very scary. Chances of death from infections are really high.
Yep, herd immunity is especially critical for people who have immunity issues or are allergic to vaccines. As an adult with measles you are hoping for the community to have herd immunity to reduce the likelihood of getting all those diseases again all at once.
