Damn Demmicrats!

8 Democrats joined with all Republicans to vote against the measure. It failed.

“The measure” was a procedural override to attach the (Democratic-led) minimum wage increase to a COVID-19 relief bill. It was not a bill to raise the minimum wage. 100% of Republicans blocked it, and with eight more Democrats (16%) that was enough to kill the override that would have attached it to a COVID bill that was guaranteed to pass. Did Jumpin Josh Hawley vote against it? (Yes)

The Senate parliamentarian had ruled that the wage increase could not be added to the bill and approved by a simple majority of senators despite House passage of the provision last week. After Senate Democrats stripped it from the Covid package, a group of progressive senators led by Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) forced a vote on the policy change anyway.

Note that Jumpin Josh had a wage increase bill back then that would raise it to $12 and then everyone would get a tax credit of $2/hr to be paid in four yearly installments which sounds like hell but ok.

Increasing the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour has been on Biden's agenda since Day 1. House and Senate Democrats introduced the Raise the Wage Act of 2021 on Jan. 26, which would begin annual increases until 2025.

SO: Item One: Since 1938 the minimum wage has been increased "23 times" and was raised "21 times during Democratic congresses, and only twice during Republican ones."

Item Two: it’s not going anywhere.

The bill pits Hawley against his fellow Republicans, who have long opposed federal minimum wage increases because they increase costs for businesses. Progressive lawmakers pushed for such a policy aggressively during the COVID-19 pandemic but didn’t manage to pass it.

Item Three:

So sure, damn the party that’s pushed this almost every single time it has ever come up and praise the traitor coup-supporting republiQan woman-hater for getting press with it.

THIS. THIS IS WHY WE’LL LOSE THE MIDTERMS. So many so-called progressive “potential” voters picking any reason in hell to not support the ONE. VIABLE. WAY OUT.

Gosh, one of Biden's top policy goals. Too bad a few Democrats sank the minimum wage increase. And universal health care. Paid family leave. Reproductive rights.

Always a hold out or two whenever something the Democrats campaign on comes around. How strange.

That is the result of having a 48% “majority” in the Senate, yes. It’s not strange at all. That’s the main determining factor in the Senate passing legislation. It’s all covered in detail in many thousands of books on the topic. I recommend one.

And universal health care.

Do go on.

Reproductive rights.

Sure, you’re of the opinion that just because abortion was safe and legal the Democrats only used the issue as a scare tactic in campaigns but never had any intention to create law for it. Despite no evidence for that and a lot of evidence to the contrary. And you’ll argue that despite the justices who perjured themselves and voted to make it illegal it’s the Democrats fault because reasons. Okay.

If you’re happier now than under Biden, okay. If not, maybe you could consider not fighting the people trying to go the way you want to go?

Well they tried snapping their fingers - no luck there. Then they tried the magic words but - still nothing. Then one guy just stood up in the House chamber and said "I declare $15 per hour minimum wage!" which seemed pretty good but when they went to check if it had worked - nope.

Any ideas?

The democrats are neither as hapless nor as unlucky as you portray them to be. They are paid very well to vote the way they do. I guess you'll just keep giving them cover so they'll never need to change.

So your claim is they’re not voting to raise the minimum wage?
