Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1329 readers
99 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

MODERATORS

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/31072292

Summary:

I downvoted pro-AI comments in a post in leftymemes community. It was LLM generated polandball comic (Which is objectively pathetic as fuck) that showed up on my feed, blocked couple of users who I thought were unhinged, and have blocked the whole instance on my client after realizing how rabid these morons are.

I didn't go looking for AI posts like a vigilante.

One user in question got miffed for being downvoted and banned me from places they moderate.

Seems fair enough to me. Why would a mod of a genAI community want people with a history of being anti-genAI in their community causing problems? And why would you even want to go visit that community in the first place, unless you wanted to cause problems. Imo this is a win-win situation. YDI.

You think it's good for mods to ban anyone and everyone who downvotes to create an echo chamber where only those who fully support them are left?

It's an art sharing community, not a debate forum.

So you do think people should be banned for not liking something and voting their opinion?

[–] Flatworm7591 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

When it starts to become disruptive to the running of the community, and the enjoyment of the community users, then it's entirely justified imo.

Downvoting posts because you specifically dislike them isn't disruptive. I never went and downvoted the whole community, and no one else did. This grand conspiracy of brigading is just that, a conspiracy. People just hate AI slop. Deal with it.

Clearly the mod did deal with it, just not in the way you expected 😁

Must be nice to know everything.

If you pay attention to most normal people, they actually are infatuated with gen AI slop and it's sort of cringe, I work at a large company and half of the people's profile pictures on our communication application are gpt ghibleified images of themselves. Hating image generation is fairly common in these online circles, but overall the average population seems to like it.

Personally I would never refer to image generation as art, but image generation in itself is honestly a super cool and fascinating technology.

I think different communities can be run in different ways. And yes in some comms you'll be banned for "voting your opinion"

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

It's still PTB, you always think about whether or not you could but you don't think about whether you should.

I mean, sure whatever. You're entitled to your opinion. But I'll take the opportunity to say that you going back to the other thread and bellyaching multiple times that I wasn't sufficiently respectful to you is hilarious. But otherwise, no your recent dozen comments on a 2 day old thread trying to ignite a flamewar isn't trolling for drama noooo.

Aww bless, YDI.
