Windows, Office and Azure all being replaced. Aarhus announced they already reduced their dependence and their bill went from 800k dkk/year last year to 225k this year.

Replacement should be open source and European.

This is huge, because in Denmark public services have been totally dominated by Microsoft (even more than most places), and even trying to question it, used to be nearly unheard of, and an obvious waste of time. No argument could penetrate the massive Microsoft propaganda.

For now this is only cloud services, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is the start of a chain reaction.

Also the Danish government recently decided on a plan to to create guidelines for both public and private organisations to ~~switch away from~~ "curb dependency" on American services and software.

It's possible this could be the first result of that.

Interestingly one of the very few places I've encountered Linux in the wild was at the (also very cool otherwise) library in Ebeltoft (a village near Aarhus).

If you ever visit Bologna (Italy) the main library in the city center not only uses Linux, but it's on Raspberry Pis :)
