How are Lemmy and Matrix integrated? (dataterm.digital)

The side panel mentions corteximplants's Matrix channel, and Lemmy has a field for your Matrix username in its user settings... how exactly are Lemmy and Matrix integrated (if at all)?

Do I still need to create a Matrix account to see the corteximplant Matrix room? Or can I somehow just use this Lemmy account? I hate having to create an account just to view content.

You can't use a Lemmy account as a Matrix identity. The integration is just visual – a link to your Matrix on your profile.
