It's honestly a bit disheartening that Spotify is trying to move from being an audio dedicated streaming platform to support video clips as well... Recent research on the fact that YouTube surpasses these platforms when it comes to the practice of music listening shows how this poses an environmental concern, since streaming video with the goal of accessing audio tracks for "soundtracking" life consumes more energy than streaming audio alone... If audio-only platforms are trying to assimilate to YouTube, there's little hope for the sustainability of music streaming practices... It's just unnecessary. The argument of bringing artists and fans closer together is major BS, wth does that even mean... Spotify could stand out in other ways. Its whole thing is allowing us to just listen to music, not watch music videos. If they want to compete, they could compete by being a more sustainable alternative and work on other affordances that make people opt for YouTube to listen to music. There's research on that. Use it for leverage, ig. It may be greenwashing to some extent, but it's definitely more sustainable than whatever their goal is by including videos.

Sorry if this is confusing. I found about this when doing research for my thesis and it's making me really frustrated. I had to let it out.

Hey there! I know this is gonna seem like a troll given how long it's been since Spotify has been promising this, but they actually built it this time. Changes have been spotted in the mobile apps they pushed yesterday and the launch is beyond a reasonable doubt imminent. I don't have an exact timeline, but we're looking at anything from days to weeks.

In Spotify's own words:

"Say hello to the best sound quality on Spotify. Listen to high-fidelity music in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz."

Edit:

Cat is out of the bag, corroborating evidence and news coverage here:

I'm getting incredibly fed up with having AI generated songs on my Discover Weekly playlist. I contemplated switching to TIDAL but I see they also don't moderate AI generated slop. Looking for recommendations for streaming services that still ban AI music.

And put the create button somewhere else. I get what you're trying to do, but its not as immediately needed as Home, Search, and Library.

I'm fine going to Create through library as that's where all that occurs anyway.

This is a listening and music discovering app, not a creator app. Even though that feature is good, it shouldn't stand up there with the former 2.

I wouldn't like an app that gets a cluttered interface. Sometimes less is more. Keep it simple and awesome. Maybe your app is already near perfect, and only needs a few small tweaks, not major changes.

In fact, I think you guys should concentrate on working more with spotify's intuition in finding songs close to the song that the user does a "go to song radio" on. I think visually maybe a tree representing the different ways in which a song or genre is close to the song the user is wanting to hear more of.

There have been songs whose melodic mood I wanted to get more of. But sometimes there are songs with the right tempo and energy that I want more of, not the melody. Sometimes it's the style of drumming, and nothing else.

Perhaps "radio" could include options where the user can select what aspect of the song to base the radio on...

Anyone else’s Spotify not working? I’ve been listening for the past 4 hours while cleaning my house. Changed the song on my phone and app just comes up with the blank screen. It was mirroring the PS5 on the house speakers, restarted the PS5 and get nothing but a blank screen on it.

I would love to see Spotify do something similar (I’ve given up on lossless)

Has anyone else noticed a steep decline in the quality of Spotify recommendations over the years? I used to be able to find so many cool new songs - thanks for example to ‘discover weekly’ or ‘song’s radio’ - but since the past few years, those two options mostly show songs that are already in my library or my playlists or random popular songs from Tiktok. It’s becoming kind of annoying - I would imagine the longer I’m a subscriber the more accurate the recommender system should be, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Plus, the price keeps going up while the quality of the product is noticeably worse. Tbh, I am still with Spotify at this point because of my playlists… any thoughts?
